Garmin Training Plans - what if I want to do something slightly different?

Hi,

I've downloaded a HM Training plan and have used the 'do workout' to do the first couple of days.

However, tonight I have a race that isn't on the plan and so I will need to record a normal run rather than the specified workout. I was just going to use the workout but ignore the details of WU/Pace/CD but I think it'll be slightly shorter than my actual race so the workout would end before I'd finished. I know I can resume the run but I don't really want to do that in a race situation (fine on a normal run).

My question is.... if I just record this as a normal run will the plan take it into account or will it think I've missed a session. Would I be better to remove the workout for today from the plan?

TIA.

Rose.

  • If you do it as a regular run without doing that day's planned workout it will not count it in the program as one of your planned runs.  So you have a few options: 1) start the planned workout at the beginning of your race and just resume at the end of the workout phase (it's easy enough to do even while racing I think), 2) use the race as an extra run that week, or 3) skip that planned workout.  Make sure you move it on your calendar prior to the end of that day if you're going to do that or the program will skip it and you won't be able to move it after that day.
