Doing a "Workout" that is on your Calendar - how do you know that GPS is locked in before you start it?

If I create a Workout and then add it to my Garmin calendar, on that day, if I click the "Start/Stop" button it asks me if I want to "Do Workout" or "View" or "Skip" it.  So if I am ready to go and outside and want to click on "Do Workout" it then brings up a screen that says "Start the timer to begin workout".  How do I know though that I am "locked" into GPS and its green and I can start my run?  If I was just doing a non workout, I would click the "Start/Stop" button and wait until the GPS is locked and turns to green, and then start my timer and go.  How do I achieve this though if you are doing a workout - does the screen still go to green when GPS is locked?  Thanks.

  • To my best knowledge you first press start/stop=> choose Running => wait for the gps fix. Then you can choose your workout and start your workout.

  • There should be a ring around that screen that grows as sattelites are acquired and turns red -> orange -> green for full lock. (So starts without the ring, then adds chunks of red in big pieces, then the full red ring will turn orange and finally green when all is fine)

  • Yes, you can do that, BUT if you add a Workout to your Garmin Calendar, on a day where you have a Workout scheduled and you press the start/stop button, you will get the screen I told you about - asking you if you want to "Do Workout".  It does not take you to the normal GPS lock screen unless you click "Skip"

  • I think I get it now.  If I click start/stop, and then click do workout, the next screen has "start the timer to begin workout" with a down arrow at the bottom that says OK.  If I then click the Down button the next screen starts up with the ring that starts with red then eventually goes to green (ie it says Warm Up 1.50m as that is the first part of my workout).  Then when the ring turns green and locks in GPS, I then click start/stop button to start the workout!  Hope that makes sense.

  • That's how it works yeah :)
