Some activities don't effect body battery

Played golf yesterday and today and have noticed for the entire period I played, Body Battery flat lines and doesn't go down at all. This doesn't make sense as it was a very tough course and I came off knackered! So after a 4hr40m game I am still at 87%!

Why is this?

  • These sorts of situations are practically impossible to sort out in a forum like this with limited information available, but I'll throw a few ideas out that might help folks like yourself make sense of what you're seeing from your device.

    1) I would assume that golf, for the most part, registers as low-intensity physical activity, which has a draining effect on your Body Battery.

    2) This low-intensity physical activity is frequently punctuated by periods of inactivity, during which you are possibly experiencing good recovery, which recharges your Body Battery. Is this enough to offset the light physical activity you are doing otherwise? I don't know. Maybe?

The pattern of activity/inactivity and intensity levels of golf do probably make it very difficult for Body Battery to make sense of things. That said, I'd expect it to sort itself out overnight, so things are on track going forward.

    Hope that helped.

Body Battery doesn’t work for the hiking activity. 7hrs hiking and BB just flatlines. Did this for the full 2 weeks hike. Since then I’ve started using the running activity for hiking which does work with BB but that then messes up VO2 max etc. I love BB so hope it can be sorted for hiking.

  • Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I'll pass this and the golf examples along, something may be weird.

Great, thank you! I love the BB feature and it was the main reason I upgraded to the 945.

  • Same here, would love this to be fixed if possible. Thanks

I guess similar to others here, I've played racquetball (which I classify as "other") and done a weights class at my gym (which I classify as "Cardio") but BB freezes during these.  Not sure if that's expected behavior though.  The HRM shows me working my butt off for both of them Slight smile

  • Hi everybody,

One of the folks who posted earlier in the thread was kind enough to send over a few screen caps and corresponding .fit files for the situation being described. I asked our physio/development team to take a look.

Initial word is that there might be an issue with how physical activity is being detected in certain specific situations and that they are going to follow up with the Garmin team. If there is in fact an issue, they'll get it figured out.

The fact that Body Battery can bring so much information together in a simple, informative way makes it a very exciting feature, and everyone is eager make sure it's living up to its full potential.

Thanks to everyone who brought this to our attention.

    All the best,
    Herman

  • Hi Herman. I’m not sure if you asked for my .fit files too as unfortunately your message (?) just disappeared before I’d read it. If you want more .fit files (Hiking) then happy to send them over.

    Thanks for looking into this!

  • Yep, I was trying to send you a private message, but I guess to send PMs you have to be 'friends' - so I stuck the note in the friend request. Probably not the best idea, but well... all good.

What I was asking about were: Screencaps - 1) Day where you noticed BB flatlined. 2) All-day HR from that day and the .fit file of the hike... if you had them.
