HRM Tri Strap connection problems

The strap sometimes does not connect.

I noticed the problems after the last 2.50 update.

A restart of the watch helps.

Question and suggestion:

Why we can’t see when the strip is connected on launching an activity?

The heart symbol could be different if the HRM Tri Strap is connected.

I always realize that after the sport. The data is not complete then.

Please fix it and inform the user when the strip is connected.

And yes, the battery has been replaced.

  • From the other thread about loss of external sensors:

How to quickly see if external sensor is present:

When I select the Activity (so fx. run or walk)

    1. With Wrist HR - there is no "Heart" symbol showing (When you are IN  the activity before pressing start - the screen where top line say "Options" on the top line.)

    2. With external old HRM-Run - it DOES show the heart symbol on the same screen.

You can also cheat - and "Enable Broadcast on Activity" - then it makes it even easier to make certain - as broadcast of HR ONLY works with Optical Wrist HR - and the Symbol is a Heart with some "wireless" jiggies  on the top right. So if that Heart symbol shows with "jiggies" - you are using Wrist HR. If it shows just the Heart - you are using external HR.

  • You will infrequently see a message stating "External HR connected" in a activity before hitting start, but not always. The icon for HR is the same between the WHR, chest strap or bicep.

If you have Garmin Pay set up (or use pulseox all day and/or sleep) Garmin states it needs to WHR on to use those things, but are not getting a reading from them. You are expected to 'trust' that the watch is reading your heart rate from the external and not the Wrist and not know if/when the externals signal is lost at some point during the activity and is now using the WHR until the watch reconnects to the external.

A way to deal with this:

    1. Turn wrist HR to off
    2. Turn off all pulseox to off
    3. Have the signal to the strap open to be pairable
    4. Power off watch
    5. Turn on watch
    6. Open chosen activity
    7. All wrist based lights should be off, external strap is the only option
    8. After finishing activity and saved turn on WHR pulseox

Convoluted, I know, but it works. I agree though there should be a different icon for the WHR and for External straps. Garmin though has never shown itself to be intuitive in design.

I found the same as kaz911.  If I'm using the WHR I never get a heart icon on my screen even if I unlock Garmin Pay.  I'll only get the heart icon when paired to my HRM-Tri or soft strap.  It's my understanding that the icons are for external sensors only.  Kaz911 also says they get the icon with the "old" strap. I guess the newer straps act differently? Both mine are 2 years + so I wouldn't know.
