WiFi connection error 0500 after disabling Bluetooth for GC synchronization

Because of my very low synchronization speed to Garmin Connect App I tested, if my watch is really synchronizing with WIFI.

I disabled my Bluetooth connection on my phone and forced my watch to perform the synchronization (press longer the Light Button and select synchronization).

1. Wach search a WLAN network.

2. After ~50 seconds I get the feedback that that no connection to the network possible. Error code 500.

That explain my very slow synchronization!

On the other side I had installed the WLAN correctly.

When I go in GC on my device → General → WLAN Networks → Choose my WLAN.

Then I start the network test. The App & the watch itself report “successfully connected”

I can also see on my router that the Forerunner is connected to my router with the name “WILC”.

But after disabling Bluetooth same problem: Error code 500.

I turned on my watch the power on and off.

I made an actualization of the WLAN password on the watch (hard to type, but finally successfully) and with the Garmin Connect App..

I disconnected and reconnected my WLAN Network on the whatch and in the App.

I changed the WIFI Password on my router to a short one with numbers only.

I changed the WLAN router to operate 2.4 GHz only (took 5GHz away).

No success. Still no sync with WIFI, but Error code 500.

I read that only 2.4GHz channels till 10 are supported. So I set my router to different channels and deactivated full speed (600Mbit/s)

No success, but I got a different messages after changing of router settings: “Wrong Password”.

I used my Samsung S8+ smartphone as a WLAN access point instead of my router.

It worked!

It seems that the Forerunner 945 has a problem with my Telekom “Speedport Smart 3” Router. Newest model from “Deutsche Telecom” since ~1 year.

In total I have set up today >30 times the WLAN connection of my Forerunner 945 with different router settings.

The installation worked always well.

The network test with activated Bluetooth worked well. The App & the watch itself report “successfully connected”. But finaly the WLAN Syncronisation ended up with Error code 500.

I see that in the Fenix 5 Plus Forum they have also discuss this problem, but no solution:

https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-5-plus-series/152837/wifi-connectivity-problem

PS: I have a German version of the watch, therefore my translation for the menus or errors is maybe not 100% correct for the english menu.

Any hints, how to solve the problem?

It seems that the Garmin Forerunner 945 has some WLAN restrictions which are not mentioned anywhere.

I got the same problem. I use fritzbox 7590 and 7490. Before I used the forerunner 945 I had a Fenix 3hr and no WiFi problem. I didn’t changed anything to software or hardware, just the watch. My  WiFi problem is only solved when I restart my forerunner and use the WiFi synchronization. If I want to synchronize it a second time it says again error 0500.

Already talked in May to Garmin, they said, we will check it.

I had the same problem Error 0105,0200 etc). I removed the wifi password, made it an open network. Ensure your router or hotspot is in 802.11g (2.4 Ghz). And it connected successfully

  • No offense, but this is not a helpful suggestion. Taking this route would then mean anybody could connect to your wireless network without authenticating as well. It's like using a flamethrower to kill a spider on your ceiling; it'll get the job done, but it makes an entirely different (and much worse) problem.

Actually, I didn't mean it is a solution. I finally replaced my watch. There was no other solution. I was in the process of troubleshooting back then. So I found  that it is an authentication problem, not a hardware one. And I thought Garmin would do something about it. Hence posted

  • Same issue here (FW 4.20):

Testing the connection from the Mobile App works, when I want to actually use it (Spotify) it says "searching" first, then "no connection".

Is there somethin else to try!?
