Any home remedies for sticky button issue that work?

About to give up on my replacement unit. Was going okay, but my down button has become unacceptable and inconsistent. Sticks, doesn't stick, etc.

I really like the watch otherwise or at least it's potential on paper and don't want to give up on it just yet. Are there any home remedies that other's have tried that work and led to watch bliss with their 945s? I though I saw something about soaking in water or running under shower.

Thanks

Why not going for a replacement, Garmin is proposing as the way to go.

Eventually Garmin has to make a statement.

While Garmin Germany is already calling it a design feature  Wink

Let some Garmin folk setup the datafields with your watch...wanna see their faces while they do that.

and...take a step back and look what you are willing to do getting your mind set at ease

    Go for the replacement ...

    happy sporting

  • This is already my second unit for this issue. Not expecting another replacement to be better right now. Also notice they are hard to get right now in USA (Amazon and REI are backordered). Maybe (and hopefully) Garmin is holding shipments until resolved? Also if I go through Garmin for the replacement than I am at their mercy in terms of what is acceptable... my retailer has a good return policy and I will eventually exchange again with them when it seems safe to do so.

    good choice

I would not try soaking or vandalizing the buttons in the shower Slight smile

  • My Fenix 5 sometimes has a sticky button. I only need to give a good wash with hand gel and warm water and the button starts to work with a click.

  • By the way, did somebody even notice the point "NOTICE! Avoid pressing the keys under water." in the device manual?

Well... I mean Fenix 5 is rated 10ATM

  • do your buttons still work? Mine work fine, sometimes I don't get a click, but I think that is more down to me pressing the side of the button and not the full button,

  • What I've done in the past is use a q-tip (cotton swap).  With the button out, wipe around it with one dipped in clean water, then press/release the button a few times and wipe it again (repeat until it's moving free)

  • I had a similar issue with an older Garmin 920XT that has been used in the pool and ocean - the enter button was not depressing normally - and the suggestions such as submersing the watch in hot water and so forth had not worked.  I took the watch apart to see if I could see what was going on and could see when I pushed the button in, it did not freely release back out.  My solution was pretty simple - I used Muc-Off dry lube which is a low-friction lubricant you would ordinarily leverage on bike parts and won't attract contaminants. There is also Muc-Off wet lube.  Any solution with PTFE would probably be suitable too.  I carefully dispersed a tiny amount of the solution around the button and worked the button back and forward until it came good and no longer would stick.  This seems to have done the trick for now and will be simple to repeat in future if required. Good luck!

  • I put a drop of WD-40 in every button the other day. Left it sit there for a few mins and then washed all off with soap and water. Buttons have never been so clicky and nice.

    :-)

  • I had this issue since the very first day of my 945. In June I had a different problem, the watch stopped working all of a sudden with no reason, and I've got a replacement. Well, to my surprise, the buttons were super clicky
