Show watch face during activity

Loving the FR945 so far, but there is one functionality that I'm missing vs F5. With F5 I could long press the down button during activity and that would bring me to watch face and I could scroll through the widgets as well. On FR945 this leads to the music player. I understand this can be changed but there is no option to change this (or any other button) to default to watch face.

Am I missing something, is there any other way to achieve this on this new watch?

Thanks

  • Create a Hot Key for Widgets and you'll be able to see your watch face and scroll through your widgets during an activity.

BUT, you can access your music player at any time, whether during an activity or not, by long pressing your Down key, or you could also add a music player screen to your activity data screens and access your music that way too.

  • the way to do it is to stop the activity and choose for "resume later" then you can view the watch face and the widgets and even start other apps.

when you start the run again you'll pick up where you left off.

An alternative is to run with a data field that shows you the time while running. Personally I run with All In One, but there are other data fields such as Dozen Run & Single Field that do that too....

  • Thanks very much, this works. Was not aware you can create a shortcut for widgets

  • On the 945 you can just set a hotkey for "widgets".  That will work with both native activities as well as ciq apps.  You just back out of the widget loop and the activity is still running, without a pause/resume later

If you do this while running a CIQ app, you will only see the native watch face and widgets, and the same with a native activity that has a CIQ data field. (it's a memory thing)

  • The other way to do it is to add the digital watch face as a data screen and scroll to it during activity

  • You can also add the time of day as a data field. Neither of these is a solution if you wanted to see a CIQ watchface though. In that case the widgets hotkey is the only solution. (If you have CIQ data fields installed in your activity, the watchface will revert to default during an activity tho.)

  • The problem with Resume Later is:

    • it interrupts/pauses your activity. You may want to see the time while your activity is still going
    • it resets most (if not all) CIQ data fields, unless they have been specifically coded to handle Resume Later. Garmin’s own fields, such as Running Power, sure don’t support Resume Later
  • Thanks for this post, it helped me solve this problem, while retaining my Lap button. Now, you can add a Hot Key to “Watch Face”, so it’ll take you straight there rather than having to go via a widget.

  • You can disable the "back" button in the settings of that particular activity (the setting is "lap button")

Doing this and pressing the "back" button you'll be able to see the watch during an activity.

  • I now realise that’s how I had my Garmin Instinct setup, however, I have grown to like having the Lap Button function as well. Best of both worlds Smiley
