Various issues -- Bugs or faulty unit?

Hi,

I come from a Fenix 3 HR i've had since launch.

I've had a my 945 for about 10 days now. I've had the following issues:

1.) Loses connection to phone.  - When I open garmin connect app the watch is blacked out. No button to force a sync, etc. It's happened twice the past couple days. Bouncing Bluetooth on the phone does not solve it, nor does restarting the phone or closing/opening the app. Restarting the watch has fixed it both times. The 'phone' symbol on the default watch face is missing entirely when this happens.

2.) Stress/PulseOx - 90% of the time I go to the widget I have -- for stress. Even with the watchband tight it says to 'check fit'. Is this just my body type/hair? Caucasian with dark arm hair. Restarting the watch seems to fix this.

Are these just bugs or sign of a faulty unit? I'm thinking bugs.

  • Yep, bugs especially if restarting the watch fixes it. Have you tried the beta?

  • Got my 945 yesterday, PulseOX worked. Earlier today I installed the GPS update, and now the PulseOX isn't measuring anymore. I have it on, I checked. I even hard reset, nothing. Hasn't taken a measure for half the day now. I don't know if it's broke (the red light is coming on) or if the GPS update somehow mucked it up. Anyone else in the same boat.

FYI, There is no hair or skin color issue.

  • 1) same here, although sometimes switching bluetooth off and on solves it. (iPhone XS, 945 on 2.50)

This is no hardware problem, I had this weird behaviour on my Fenix 3 and later on my 935 also in the beginnings. It was patched later. No idea why the 945 starts with this type of problem again.

Not sure about others, but this is becoming increasinly common on mine. 2.50 on the watch, and a Oneplus 6 phone.

Phone icon commonly missing entirely. Other times shows disconnected. Doesn't self recover.

Never had this issue on my Fenix 3 HR

  • Having the same issue with the stress widget...  How long until an update? I've noticed that it's affecting training status and other features that utilitze HRV...

  • Former Member Figured I'd tag you in this hoping you see my post contributions.  I recently got a replacement 945 bundle, no luck.  So makes me think a firmware issue.

Did you get this sorted.......I am getting the same problems with my 945. It ran perfectly when I first got it, but the last month has been diabolical.

I have to reset watch, and garmin connect....it then works temporarily. then loses connection, card info, wifi info and my spotify amongst other things. I have to go through the whole set up process again at the end of each charge or if my Blue tooth connection is disconnected. This first occurred after I had charged up my watch up one time about a month ago I think. I notice on other forums lots of other people are having the same issues...

This is not one of Garmins lower end watches, so I'm feeling a bit disappointed.

  • Hi,

So a couple things first. The watch is currently on a live 2.80 update with a new sensor hub update to boot. If you haven't updated to this, I'd advise you do so (since Garmin considers those to be the most stable).

Garmin also releases nearly all of their watches in beta (whether they state it or otherwise). It's been like this forever. You're always buying a "Still cooking" watch regardless to the price point.

As for the stress issue or connection issues, I haven't seen anywhere in the live update notes they have addressed it, so I power off/on the watch after doing an activity to be safe. I personally haven't seen the connection issue(s) on either of the 945's I've owned, but that just means I got the luck of the draw with them.

If you hard press the 945 on the list of devices in the app, you can refresh the BT connection between the phone and the app. Also if this is a Samsung phone, make sure you have the watch saved as a trusted device.
