Workout with interval longer than 6 minutes split up

When i am doing a workout which contains a step longer than 6 minutes it is slit up and i get a notification on my 945 like auto lap.

It shows the time and pace like with the auto lap but the interval is not done yet.

Anybody else having the same problem?

  • Did you enable Autolap?

Mine is enabled. If I do workouts with Intervalls longer 1km (my autolap distance), it looks the same on connect. On the watch during the workout, laps are using autolap and Intervall screens are using the Intervall from the Workouts.

This behavior of connect is long criticized, a lot of us wish autolap and manual/Intervall laps to be visualized parallel.

  • Seems indeed simply auto-lap kicking in, so after 1k it will trigger a lap.

I usually clone the run activity, rename it to 'run interval' and disable autolap for it. That way I never forget (or have to) switch autolap on or off for a run...

  • Thanks, that sounds valid.

I will turn off auto lap and try tonight.

  • Thanks , see commend below.

  • This was indeed the problem.

Funny that i never have done intervals longer than 1 kilometer Slight smile

it's not just the behaviour of Garmin Connect -- Garmin watches don't support independent auto/manual/interval laps and neither does the FIT file activity format. There's just one kind of lap, internally, and they can't overlap, unlike Polar/Suunto/whatever.

I have a solution for you -- it's not perfect, but I'm not aware of anything else that's close.

    1) Download my Lap+ data field.
    It gives you:
    - 6 fields in a full screen layout
    - (optional) Auto splits (by time or distance) that are separate from your manual / interval laps. If you turn off Garmin auto laps, this will accomplish the goal of having separate auto splits and manual laps.
    - 100s of metrics, including lap and split stats. Supports stats that Garmin doesn't provide, such as Last Lap HR
    - (optional) Built-in lap viewer

    2) Auto splits can't be saved to the FIT file, so you need a solution for visualizing them after the activity is over. For this I would recommend https://runalyze.com which is a free webapp that syncs with Garmin Connect and lets you chop up activities into arbitrary laps by time or distance
