Controlling music while running AND Apple AirPods question

Ok, bare with me here as I have searched and I have not found any answer I'm looking for.

Question 1) When I start a run is there anyway to control the music from the music such as volume up/down/next track/etc.?  I have the music widget on my screens but whenever I hit a button it does what it would normally do when I'm running (example if I hit the top right it pauses the run).

Question 2) Any experience with Apple AirPods 2 with a Garmin watch?  I have them set to "previous track" when I hit the left earbud twice, and "next track" when I hit the right ear bud twice, but whenever I go to run with just the AirPods and the watch (with no phone) when I double tap it just pauses the song regardless of which side.  Is there a way to change that?

Any input is greatly appreciated as I surprisingly really like the AirPods but if I can't do any of the listed above I'm afraid they may have to go back.

Thank you for the input

  • From any screen on the watch at any time, even during an activity, you can long press the down button to access your music.  You can also add the music data field as a separate screen to any activity app and access music that way during an activity.  The long press down is the easiest way though, I think.

Can't answer your AirPods question as I don't have those.

Thank you for the tip on holding the left down button. Very helpful

  • I just want to comment on your AirPods issue of not responding to how you have them set when you tap each one.  I don't have AirPods, however, I just got some Samsung Galaxy Buds so there is similar functionality.  I have discovered that my Galaxy Buds will respond to all of my custom programmed settings ONLY if I am connected to my phone/app and listening to music playing from my phone.  If I connect them to my 945 I can play music and it does respond to the standard taps (play/pause, next/previous song, answer call) BUT it won't respond to my custom settings.  So if I have them set to turn on/off ambient sound by holding a button it won't respond to that.  And if I have them set for volume up/down by holding a button it won't respond to that either. I have to change my volume from the 945.  I wonder if you are having a similar problem with your AirPods in that the custom settings only work when connected to the phone/app.

That sounds like the issue. I ended up returning the AirPods , they just didn’t sit in just ears right and the controls were really bad only being able to choose 2 functions.
