Podcasts on 945 - any experiences?

I am currently running with a 935 and an iPhone where I listen podcasts on. Thinking about switching to a 945 if it is a good device for listening to podcasts.

Would be happy to hear from folks about their experiences on the topics:

- Is it possible to sync from Apple podcasts to the watch?

- Cable connection required or is Wifi also working?

- If listening to a podcast, ending the run is it possible to continue on the last heard position in this podcast or is manual scrolling necessary?

- Is manual scrolling ok or a pain? Meaning: can it skip large portions and does it display the current position?

- In general: what is your process to sync podcasts? I saw an CIQ App called Runcasts. Not sure about it, too little information

- Not podcast related: I have Trekz Air headphones, can I control the Garmin with it (Pause/Start, Volume)?

Thanks!

P.S.: I am no user of Spotify, I am currently managing my podcast subscriptions in the Apple podcast app.

  • I can't really answer your questions about podcasts other than to say that I have downloaded some podcasts from Spotify just to try it out and it was very easy.  I believe the podcasts should continue where you stopped them because my music playlists do that.  I am new to podcasts and want to know how people find the ones they like.  There are so many.

I use Trekz Air also and they are super easy to pair and connect, and yes, you can control your music with the headphones very easily.

    • I've created a playlist in iTunes that I have synced to the watch. When you start Garmin Express and go to the Music selection, you get this as an option. The other is manual sync
    • I think cable connection is required (that's how I've done it)
    • I believe it saves your current position
    • Manual forward/backward work ok, you hold the button and it does it for as long as you hold, I don't remember seeing any indicators for where you are (there might be, I just haven't used this functionality often enough)
    • Yes on all three with the Trekz Aftershokz Air - in fact that's how I primarily control the watch during my run. It works perfectly

    Hope that helps.

  • Linda, Levon: thanks. Very nice from you!

  • Linda, the search function in Apple podcasts and the recommrndations helped me find a very valuable and small set of podcasts I subscribed to.

  • googling something like 'running podcast' or 'spanish tutorial podcasts' will bring up a bunch of hits, usually in the form of 'The top X podcasts on Y' .. see a few of those listing, you'll get an idea which might be worth a look.

On some apps you can also see how many people have subscribed to a given podcast, that too will give you an idea.

Finally, sometimes apps will also list podcasts related to the topic you are looking at.

  • Thanks for the help!  I've been finding some good running ones by searching.
