is there any insight as to when this will be available for purchase on the garmin site? It said 2-3 weeks then 1-3 days now 2-3 weeks again. I’m getting impatient but have to order through the site!

Plenty of reasons to get it directly through Garmin - no middle man to deal with if there's an issue, corporate fitness programs may require direct purchases, etc.
And I'm guessing this is why Garmin is stocking their own website last. If they can sell every watch that rolls off the line at full retail right now through other channels they will probably wait until…
Why do you have to order through the Garmin site? So many other retailers sell it - why wait!
Glad I ordered the tri bundle on July 4. It's coming today! I'll probably sell the HRM straps I don't need to make up the difference in price (about $100 after the 35% discount through health insurance). Unless you really hate the blue accents on the tri version (note that the bundle does come with a black watch band if you prefer that), you might consider doing the same. It's down to 1-3 days processing time.
I ordered my 945 bundle from Garmin direct on June 19th. I just received it today. When I spoke with the Garmin rep a couple weeks ago, they mentioned that vendors get inventory priority. I ordered the bundle because I was sure that it would arrive sooner since demand is usually lower for the bundle.
Coming up on 5 days now, I'm very satisfied. Came with 2.60 firmware installed, not sure what the difference is between that and the public 2.50 release.
GPS tracking has been excellent (GPS+GLONASS) - I did a couple test runs the first day with a 235 on the other wrist to compare, and the 945 placed me right on the sidewalk where I was running, while the 235 put me in the middle of the street. 25 miles of running so far, and no complaints here.
No connectivity issues with phone (iPhone) or ANT+ sensors (HRM-Run, Stryd footpod).
Buttons do feel a little "smoother" than previous watches (Fenix 3 and 235) but that's not a bad thing. Just different. I could see this being interpreted as "mushy" but maybe other units really are worse. For me, every press is registered as I would expect, so I'm happy as long as that doesn't change over time.
It's been hard to judge battery life so far, but I haven't had any unexpected drain. It seems to be better than my Fenix 3 was, and definitely better than the 235, but I haven't done any rigorous tests or measurements.
All new features and metrics are interesting and appear to be working as advertised. I was surprised to see the watch calculated 7-day load and 4-week load focus based on historical data from other watches. My impression was that it needed 945 data and would only calculate those once it had accumulated enough data directly. But that doesn't seem to the be case. Even better!
I have not done any swimming, so can't comment on the widely reported open water swim issues. I also haven't tried the music or contactless payment features, as I have no plans to use them.
Enjoy your new watch!
Garmik Great to hear!! I just finished updating maps and software here. The watch came in today! So far I'm a happy camper. I was planning on using the Instinct as the daily watch but now thinking I'll keep this as the main watch.
I also noticed my data came over from previous activities.
I did install all the beta software that's out.
Thanks for your two cents!!
Here in Italy (Europe), master sellers say it will take weeks or even one month for new 945, now that stores are empty. Probably Garmin have a break in production, take a briefing on last hw issues, little changes in materials like buttons, ohr resin, etc. And restarting with a new line, a sort of 1.01 hw version….
I was excited when these were first announced, I was excited to switch to a Garmin for the 945. Its gotten to the point that I am so annoyed with the issues and availability, before I even own it, that I am frankly going to wait and see what everyone else does to compete. Pretty sad state of affairs.
OTOH, my wife bought a 245 and loves it.
