Active Calories Getting Erased Post Activity

For the past two days I have noticed that my pre-activity active calories burned are getting wiped out after an activity has been completed on my 945. For example, my active calories before a 4 mile walk were at 105. The walk recorded 375 calories burned. After the watch and phone were synced, both showed 377. I would have expected to see 482 calories as active.  Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Hi - its not a bug - the activity calories are always active + bmr - so your active calories on the walk are less then 375.

  • That makes no sense.  The 375 calories should only be for that activity, but I had 105 active calories that were logged before the walking activity that disappeared.  If that is how it is supposed to work, then the calories burned for the activity are reporting incorrectly.

It is correct and working properly. Your 375 calories for your activity duration were a combination of active calories and your BMR.  You burned a total of 375 calories. 272 were active calories and 103 were BMR calories.

  • OK.  Thank you.  I think I understand this now.  I think maybe I was confused because after the activity, the calories were practically the same as the active calories.

If you look at your calories tab in GCM for the previous days, your resting calories (BMR) are always the same.  Based on the info you entered; gender, age, weight, etc., this is your BMR.  Calories you burn daily just to sustain life.  Divide that number by 24 and you'll have your hourly BMR.  These are calories that are always burned outside any activity you may be doing and never count as "active" calories.  I hope this helps.

  • Yes this helps a lot.  Thank you for the explanation.  This is my first Garmin watch and I am just trying to understand the data it is providing.
