Physio True-up

Physio True-up does not seem to be working properly. I did a two bike rides with my Edge 1030 over the weekend (TSS 245 & 175). The  7d load screen shows that a 5 mile run on Friday had a load of 110 (orange) whereas both bike rides are shown as 50-55 in grey. Is anybody else seeing this?

  • I can report that using the 830 works perfectly. Maybe it's the different versions.

  • I do have the same issue with a fresh FR 945 and an Edge 1030, both Physio True Up enabled. I did an anaerobic activity yesterday on the edge.
The activity on the Edge 1030 syncs just fine with Garmin Connect and is visible on the FR 945. Also, recovery time is considered. However, the activity does not contribute to the training load on the Forerunner 945.
In the Garmin Connect training load report under "Activtiy list" the activity is also listed with a load of 0 and no main benefit.
The edge 1030 load screen shows just fine. Have not tried vice versa.

  • Please note that Intensity minutes is solely done by the HR reading of your default fitness tracker and never synced / re-calculated by HR Zones of your activity using TrueUp or Physio True Up.  You have to wear the watch with HR readings enabled to get intensity minutes. Argumentation on this is, that the Edge is not a fitness tracker.

  • Not arguing that what you say isn't true, but if so that does seem a bit of an odd choice from whoever made it.

The argument would be that if you record those sessions as activities on a suitable device they don't count towards fitness!?

Garmin connect was always positioned as a portal that gave an overview on status and activities done, but it appears it doesn't actually do that unless all recorded on one device.

I was hoping moving to the new watch would be a forwards step, at least for when I want more simplified data on general health and fitness. It seems like I'm better off going back to trainingpeaks/strava and using old devices even now I'm non competitive as at least you don't get alerts based on misleading numbers and trends!

  • I had the same issue for the first few activities... I then disabled/enabled Physio True Up on all devices... All figures matched after that.

  • Hey magnus,

Also tried enabling/disabling on both devices to no avail.

    • Can you confirm that the activity on the other device shows up for the fr 945 training state as a specific activity in the individual load screen (exercise load) ? Is it categorized?

    What edge do you use?

  • Possessor of a GARMIN EDGE 1030 and newly a Forerunner 945, I also noticed that the training loads between these two devices did not synchronize. The scores and statuses are different from one device to another.

I made several bike trips with my EDGE 1030 and then I made the synchronizations between my two devices. Each time the scores and status did not coincide. So I tried to do the synchronizations by removing Physio True Up on both devices. I got two different results which makes sense. I then put the physio true up function back. there was a change of score for the Forerunner 945, but that is not the same as on the EDGE 1030. I noticed that the Forerunner 945 did not fully take into account the cycling activities which does not allow not actually have the same scores and status on each device. Maybe a future update on the Forerunner 945 will solve this problem.

  • Doesn't seem to be true for me - I did a ~3 hour MTB ride using an Edge 530 on Saturday, shows up fine in intensity minutes in Garmin Connect and also shows up in the 7-day load on my FR945, as well as impacting recovery time on the 945.

  • so, this problem is as old as the watch and the New Edges 530/830/1030 (with new software) and there is still no change?

I just did a bike ride again with my Edge 830 wich the 945 lists in its protocol but doesn't take into account.

Garmin: Training load could be a good thing if it would only work, but now its useless. Best thing about Physik True-up wich is working: If you use more than one step tracker.

  • I think only the later 830 and 1030 models actually sync intensity and T.E data cross to the 945. The older models just sync the session, but not the finer detail.
