Heat acclimation

So we’ve had a fairly mild spring here and prior to today had only 2 runs with my 945 that were over 71f and the heat acclimation was at 17%.

Today I ran an HM and the temp at start time was probably around 68f, although the temp shown for the run by Connect is 63f, but quickly rose into the mid-70’s. Afterward my heat acclimation remained at 17%.

This seems to be a flaw with the way this feature works, or maybe my understanding of it. Many runs can have a rise from below the threshold temp to above it, and also there’s a good chance that the temp that Connect receives might be accurate. My watch had been been connected to my phone the entire time so it’s not a matter of it using outdated info.

The other day I was wondering whether or not this feature can accept data from a Tempe sensor. If not why not?

Does the heat acclimation take in account also humidity ? There's a big difference to run at 27° C with 0% Humidity and the same temperature 27° C with 90% humidity. Here in Milan (Italy) we are usual to these big changes of weather

Great question. Using the heat index would be much better than ambient temperature.

HermanB what's your opinion? and what is the Firstbeat view about the humidity data for the heat acclimation calculation?

I have been using the 945 for a few weeks and I have done a few runs and rides where Garmin Connect reports that the temperature is 21C or greater. However, there is nothing in Performance Stats>Training Status. Not sure why this is but assuming that the 945 is pulling weather data at the start or the workout and/or the temperature is not up to date. It would be nice if once the activity is uploaded to Garmin Connect if it would update the temperature info and recalculate the heat acclimation.

The challenge in Canada (or for my specific location) is that we don't get a lot of hot weather. For me, anything over 18C feels hot. It would be nice if the set point for heat acclimation was selectable.

Hi, yes, heat and humidity are both taken into account. It would be essentially pointless to consider one but not the other. ;-)

ok HermanB but if the calculation "starts" from 22° it will exclude those situations when I run at 21° with a 95% humidity that would be a really hard run like with an higher temperature... Do you agree?
