Is 945 the one for me?

Hello guys. Garmin has sooooooooo many watches, i got confused each time i look at the watch catalogue.

I am currently using Samsung Gear Sport and i need a HUGE STEP FORWARD in terms of fitness and activity tracking, which is closely accurate.

I am not a professional runner but i like running 2-3 times a week. (Mostly 5-8km each)

I am not a professional swimmer but my city has sea.. so i do swim. [Water is salty]

I hit the GYM but i am not a heavy-lifter beast

I am an average guy who likes doing sports in his free time, aims to keep fit.

I have basic needs. I need:

a) MUSIC STORAGE

b) Sleep monitoring

c) 7/24 heart rate monitoring

d) Changing songs through the watch while listening in my phone. (like remote spotify function)

e) SOLID salty water resistance

f) Seeing who is calling in my watch

g) Seeing some whatsapp messages

h) SOLID GPS PERFORMANCE

I DONT CARE ABOUT:

a) Finding myself in small-screen-navigation thing. I dont go hiking. Never did.

b) Metal / plastic structure

Is Forerunner 945 is the best option here or should i wait for Fenix 6 or Forerunner 645 or forerunner 245?

Thank you!

Please help me choose...

  • No one knows when the F6 will be available, and both the 645 and 245 don't have open water swimming capability. So if you need a watch right now, go for the 945 or the F5+.

I Think you should go with the fr245 - as it seems you dont care about all the fancy firstbeat stuff

  • I am not a professional as i said before, i just need a watch that wont die in 2 years :)

  • I've had several different Garmin watches over the last 15 years or so, none of them have died - they are very good hardware, so I don't think you need to worry on that account. The 245M will probably fit your needs - visit the Garmin product page for more details as needed and/or watch/read reviews of the model.

  • Again, the FR245 does not have open water swimming, and this is one of the activities OP mentioned.

  • Actually i dont know if it's definition is "open water swimming" , as i just want to see the TIME and CALORIE and HEART RATE in SALTY WATER. Of course i will rinse it after i get out of the sea. I will probably spend max 1 hour in the sea.

The thing i mostly care about is ACCURACY. For instance can you CLEARLY say that FR945 is MORE ACCURATE than Fr245 in terms of Heart Rate, Calorie countering?

Well, I think that the watch that best suites you is the Apple watch 4...

  • Well, you’re not going to get GPS or HR during swimming activities with a 245, 645 or any “non-multisport” watch. No Garmin supports wrist HR during swimming, and no Garmin is able to get live HR from a chest strap during swimming.

Unless I’m mistaken, the only way to get HR while swimming is to wear an HRM-TRI or HRM-SWIM which can store HR and transmit it to a multisport Garmin when you’re out of the water — you’ll need a Fenix, 920XT, 735, 935 or 945 for that.

  • Actually, if he doesn't care about distance or stroke metrics, then he can get HR while swimming when using a non-swimming profile, like "Run" or "Other". I'm not gonna speculate about accuracy in this case.

  • AW4 is a beautiful watch, yet i dont like apple phones... So i will stick to Garmin, Samsung, Suunto, Polar.
