Garmin 945 and HRM-Run (red)

Hi All,
2 days old new Garmin 945 and serious problem with RUNNING activity and HRM-Run (red) chest strap. I can pair it but right after I start running activity after about 2-3 minutes chest strap disconnects and watch start to measure my heart rate from wrist. To the end of activity chest strap won't connect again. Tested with 2 HRM-Run (red) straps. Both of them work with my 935 and Fenix 5S Plus without any problems. Garmin 945 updated to the latest software version with Garmin Express (Firmware 2.40, GPS: 2.30, Wi-Fi: 2.60, CIQ: 3.0.10, BMX: 0.4.8, WHR: 20.04.12, ANT/BLE/BT: 3.50, Sensor Hub 2.20). Anyone with the same issue?

  • Not had that no. So on these runs when it disconnects, did you also wear these other devices and they were unaffected?

  • Hi, no. I got new device on Tuesday so first I started activity on Tuesday with 945 and it disconnected after about 2-3 minutes. Then the same strap with 935 about 30 minutes run without any problems. Then with the same strap Fenix 5S Plus about 30 minutes without any issue. Next day on Wednesday the same procedure with second strap and the same results. 945 disconnected after about 5-7 minutes, 935 and Fenix 5S Plus registered all Run Dynamics metrics without any problems.Yesterday (Thursday) I did over 1 hour run activity with first strap and 935 and no issues. Also yesterday I reported problem to Garmin and 2 days old device already sent to Garmin for replacement.

One thing what I didn't do was to test a run activity without any firmware updates. When I got it, I updated everything from Garmin Express and then started to use it. Maybe on factory firmware there are no issues? No idea.

  • I would like to see if its possible how the disconnection looks like on GC... can you please like to one of your activities?

  • What firmware does your HRM Runs have? (Go to sensors - select the HRM - go to ?Status I think it is and it will show all the firmware and other details)

Garmin usually pushes firmware out through the watch to the sensors. So for a sensor to upgrade firmware - it has to be bound to the watch. Once bound sync with Garmin Express and then if firmware is needed - Garmin express push the firmware to the watch. Then on next connection to the sensor Watch will try to upload the firmware to the sensor. It might take a few tries before it happens especially if you start your activity right away.

I don’t like or use the new HRM Runs as the thing that fails first is usually the belt - so I find it rather crazy to have belt bonded to the HRM Run. My old style HRM Run works fine with the 945 so far.

  • Hi, both straps have the latest firmware version 3.40. And again, one strap I use since 2017 without any issues with 935 and since 6 months with Fenix 5S Plus, second strap is completely new and works correct also with 935 and Fenix 5S Plus.

  • Hi, sure, here it is. In about 3rd minute HRM-Run disconnected (you can see on the 3rd chart DŁUGOŚĆ KROKU - STRIDE LENGTH), in the same time HEART RATE switched from HRM-RUN to OHR and all Run Dynamics charts are empty.

And here switching HEART RATE from strap to OHR in details:

  • Hi All,

today I've got from Garmin Polska second, new 945 box device. I didn't update it, I did today's running with factory firmware. And what? I works perfect with my HRM-Run (red). Next 2 or 3 days I will try it in the same configuration, without any updates. Pictures below show what versions work for me. I'm really afraid to update it. Garmin has to check it.

And I found another thing, some of you wrote that OHR is still working during activity with HRM strap on 2.40 firmware. For sure with factory firmware 2.10 OHR is turned off during activity with HRM strap, I've checked it today also.

  • Next three activities with factory firmware 2.10 and no problems with HRM-RUN at all :)
