First thoughts...

Got my device yesterday, impressed so far.

Need to keep an eye on the battery life, seemed to drop about 5% overnight, it gets hammered using gps, music and bluetooth as does syncing Spotify over WiFi.

Feels noticeably snappier than the 935, maps look really good and am looking forward to using them hiking around some Yorkshire hills. Seemingly some extra animations switching between screens which feels nice.

I synced up some music over Spotify, that really killed the battery, doing a refresh of all the playlists. It's not a bad interface but

I quickly paired my headphones and went for a 60min run last night, with zero dropouts. I was also trying to keep my HR in a specific zone, and got regular HR readings through the headphones which was very good.

The screen seems easier to read compared to the 935 with my eyes that usually need glasses for reading.

A few bugs noted so far, sight and go is missing from the menus, as is the option to only have gesture activated back light after sunset, suspect this could be quickly fixed.

Cheers,

Greg
  • Just came back from 3,5 bike ride. The 945 did flawless :-)

Paired with speed sensor, hr belt, powermeter - 3,5h used 18% battery - that is effectively just about 4 hours. I find that really nice.

For the 945, I really like the display - it's slightly but noticeably better than my F5S+ - but also using the watch is great. Menu is fast and snappy.

So - first thoughts from me is really solid. The 945 starts off as a great watch..!

Edit: Looking at maps in detail, by zooming in , I can conclude that Edge 1030 is only with a very little margin better at tracking. In 99% of all cases, the two tracks are identical. It is that close...!

Really happy with 945 so far :-)
  • Yeah i did a 10k run yesterday and i think that 945 outperforms 935 in GPS accuracy.

Teriemer and Darre80 It's good to hear this. The big question was how the new Sony chipset would perform.
  • TMK17 yeah it still is... it was just one run for me, and maybe its to early to say but if 945 is that good already i hope it will just get better later on with firmware updates ;)

Yes, still very early, but encouraging. Suunto users saw issues right off the bat.

So far so good. Just did a very short walk. Again GPS was good, though this was in open sky. So to be expected. Never the less - no issues.

But of course - more testing has to be done.
  • I'll chime in. First run with the 945 on the normal route. Compared to the 935 the GPS accuracy was clearly superior on the new watch. I've run this route dozens if not hundreds of times and compared it to a few different versions of the 935 run -- it was far and away the best.

Again, it's only one 3 mile run but very good showing so far.

about the new elevate sensor dimensions

for me the 945 is less comfortable to wear with the thicker elevate(protruding) sensor than the 935

the dimple created by the 945 is huge in comparison with the practically non existing dimple from the 935 :)
  • I cannot confirm that...

My 945 sits very nice on my skinny wrists. Much more comfortable than Fenix 5S+. I don't recall how 935 was, but 945 just sits there and I don't notice it. It's really good for me.
  • Picked mine up yesterday to replace a 2yo 935. So far, Sync'd spotify playslists, used garmin pay, connected Bose blutooth headphones, etap gears, garmin cadence, bontrager front and rear lights, garmin HRM-TRI. So far so good.

Just did a 4km pram run while listening to DC Rainmakers podcast and bought lunch with garmin pay. Nice!

2 issues though. 1. When running it alerted me to each km completed up to 6km's, which was weird since I only ran 4km. I did do "resume later" and played with the music/lap button so I need to test this again without the mucking about.
    2. seems to be some weirdness with connecting to my Bontrager lights. When i get close to my bike they come on "forming light network" even If i havent started an activity. Which is pretty annoying. I wish you could lock down certain ANT+ sensors to activity types, i.e. eTAP gears and lights to Cycling etc..
