Pre-loaded maps - only for region where bought or more??

I have just performed first sync and upgraded to software 2.40.

What I noticed is for the European watch that Garmin Express also indicates that maps for North and South America as well as Pacific are loaded.
Has anything changed about Garmin policy in respect to which maps are provided out of the box (only region that the watch was purchased)??

Does anybody know how to check which maps are actually available on the watch? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1481223.jpg

The topo ones are region specific. The others aren't (and far smaller). Nothing has changed

I have the same question. I was under the impression that buying my watch in the US that I'd only have maps of North America, but Express kept showing updates for all the regions. I just installed the updates and I guess I'll find out when I travel to Europe in the next few months.

jim_m_58 What kind of maps are they? When you say smaller, do you mean it doesn't cover all areas? Sorry if the questions may be ignorant. This is my first Garmin with maps.

IN_DEPTH maps are for home/base location only. The other 'updates' are cursory, far less detail, for other world locations

Detailed European maps based on OSM available on the website below. As far as I know they can be loaded on any Garmin device regardless of where it was bought.

Sorry for an ignorant questions it is also mine first watch with maps:
- Do I need to somehow change the map used from general to specific or this is done automatically as I zoom in/out?
- What happens if I load the OSM map as recommended by CloggyAbroad do I need to select it on the watch?
