HEY Garmin-Sierra ,i have a real questions for you?

Are you planning on releasing an update for the Forerunner 945 LTE like you did for other lower forerunner models? Or is this model trash and you're too shy to say it?

  1. As we know that Forerunner 945 LTE has more better mainboard than other Forerunners and very smilar to Fenix but for some reason Garmin doesn't want to update this model. Why? Do you want us to sell or throw away this model? Is it because you accidentally released a model in the past that you were supposed to release in the very future? Maybe Fenix 8 pro LTE?

This updates only belongs to Forerunner 255 which is lower model than 945 LTE

  • I like the LTE feature of the 945, even though it only really adds LiveTrack without a phone.  I want my next Garmin to have the same.

I tend to be early adopter and am often excited for features and firmware updates - the 945 LTE (perhaps due to the LTE radio, perhaps due to Garmin's prioritization) has often been delayed or limited in updates.  This has been frustrating for me throughout owning it, maybe especially if we see various "lesser "products receiving notable updates while we're left behind (with no real upgrade option even if we wanted to bite)

As I look at the Fenix 8 launch, the limited new features, the higher price, the lack of LTE and the lack of promise to "properly" (my opinion) support Fenix 7 Pro / Epix Gen 2 Pro devices after the 8 launch has left me more of a frustrated customer than a happy one once again.

I _want_ a Fenix 8 / 9 with LTE, but I also don't want to be burned by limited launch features due to a rushed release followed by slow updates and a short product support cycle... all while paying more and more $ with each release.

    End Rant. :)

  • It has been stated before in Forums  that due to LTE they need carrier sign off on the SW updates . I think DCR also mentioned that in some of his comments to queries.

  • It has been noted, yes, although I struggle with accepting the reason alone equating to "the best it can be" here.

IMO other companies seem to have a better methods/processes here (various cell phones, Apple Watch?).  Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's an architectural issue (LTE firmware unchanged could allow other MCU firmware to change without carrier approval?).

Admittedly I'm not personally experienced in this, but feel like the 945 LTE's various delayed or infrequent updates may be affected by something like carrier approvals, this alone can't (shouldn't?) be the sole issue for differences in treatment.

If this alone is truly the problem, I can't see Garmin ever putting LTE in a flagship watch (mainline Fenix series) due to the cost and complexity of maintaining and updating their firmware.

  • sadly 17.28 is the latest update with new features for this product.

8 months later nothing more than a minor release for bugfix

    ---

it was quite identical to FR955, same CPU, but locked with CIQ API 3.4.x which correspond to System 6

    ---

this product is near to End of Software Support by Garmin :-(

  • Its a shame because 945LTE in many ways is the best hardware ever released in the Forerunner line-up. Here's some things I like about it more than 955:-

    1)  Case matched buttons

    2) Harder springs which translates to better button feel

    3) 20% bigger battery (12 hours music vs 10 hours for 955) with a burn rate of 3% per hour for GPS+Galelio

    4) The best MIPS display Garmin ever made. Yes, the 955 gets washed out when seen from some tilted angles. (And also 7 Pro but not F7). This is the most paper-like display from garmin and the same experience is found on all gorilla glass fenix 6 pro and fenix 7 series watches.

    5) Compact case. The proportions work better with 22mm band. On 47mm watches the band looks too skinny to me.

    6) The domed epoxy sensor cover is more comfortable than the flat glass cover on most other variants using this sensor.

All in all its my favorite Forerunner even though its got the quirky Sony GPS chip.
