LTE LiveTrack stopped working, fixed by Wi-Fi Sync - Alternatives?

My LiveTrack LTE subscription worked for 2+ months, then stopped about 2 weeks ago. During RUN the Time data screen would say "LiveTrack Starting" but never change to "In Progress" and send the emails. It would work fine using my phone.

I called Garmin and uploaded my watch data folder, screen captures and stuff for an engineer to review. I have not heard anything from them.

To further test LTE tech support had me try an "LTE Sync" under Settings, Connectivity, LTE. This spun circles for a while, then failed. It did show 2 LTE signal bars so it helped know that I was getting an LTE signal.

Somehow I found the Garmin support article "Why Is the LiveTrack Start Message Delayed on My Forerunner 945 LTE? "

support.garmin.com/.../

Article said when LTE fails to try a "Wi-Fi Sync" (also in Settings, Connectivity) to download something large required for LTE.

After WiFi Sync the LTE Sync still did not work, BUT LiveTrack IS WORKING AGAIN. I guess that Sync fixed it, but maybe Garmin tech support fixed something and did not email me.

In creating this message I ran into the below topic that may be useful if you have this problem.

I want to buy a FR 965 and wondering if anyone had ideas on how to do LiveTrack, or similar, without a phone? (My 945 is working so well for me I kind of hate to mess with what's working, but the 965 big bright screens look so good)

Idea 1. Keep the 945 LTE and wear it also. Guess that would give me a second data screen. It's not that big or heavy.

Idea 2. Buy a Pixel Watch LTE. It has a Strava Beacon App that sends location to 3 people. There may be other ways? This watch can do phone calls and texts so seems a big safety improvement. V2 should come out in October.

I'm used to wearing a 2nd watch, the Polar Vantage V2. I own it so why not wear it and get Polar flow data. I don't think the Pixel Watch Fitbit days would be anywhere near as useful.

  • Nothing to share, just that I feel you. I really value the LTE functionality and it doesn’t look like Garmin’s going to release a new one for at least a while. Back when I had an Apple Watch I sometimes tried running with both and felt it was really clunky to wear two. Maybe keeping the 945 in your pocket would feel less weird than having two watches on.
