How to turn off running power? SW 7.11

Hey there,

with the new 7.11 firmware my watch now calculates Running Power.

This would be nice and everything but I absolutely don't want to get these metrics.

As a Stryd user, I have established power zones and since the new FW has been installed, my running power data has been messed up in Trainingpeaks.

My race will take place in less than 2 weeks, I really would like to get rid of this asap, but can't find where to turn it off in the options.

Can somebody tell me where I can turn it off?

  • Search on the 955 Forum as that seems to have been an issue for. number of people who have found work arounds, as its been on the 955 a bit longer

  • Same problem here. I haven't any issue on beta version 7.07 but now the IQ power field has dissapeared

  • Thanks for the suggestion, a good one.

I did so and the workarounds I read are not really applicable, e.g. to connect the hrm strap via Bluetooth instead of Ant+ or to wear it upside down, since these turn off every other metrics as well.

I don't even know if this is related, or this new feature doesn't require the chest strap at all, I assume it doesn't. So they couldn't even help if they would.

Tragic, but what can I say, I am slowly accustomed to that... Slight smile

  • So just to be clear, I still have the IQ power field from the Stryd zones (CIQ data field) but additionally, I now have the running power data from Garmin.

They co-exist on Garmin Connect and that's nice and all, but the synchronised activity in Trainingpeaks messes up the summary of the workout there.

I've been training for months with a Stryd and know my metrics and zones, but having +50% Watts from the one day to the other is super annoying.

I had a chat with Garmin Support today and they told me this is not yet the wrist-based running power, which is still in beta and will arrive for Fenix/Epix/955/945LTE/255 soon-ish.

So it must be the running pod or HRM-TRI/PRO based running power, which I didn't use so far but afaik it needed a CIQ App until now.

It doesn't seem to be possible to turn this off, which is very unfortunate Sweat

The only workaround I've found *and* could be viable is that I could cut out the Garmin running power data from the FIT file with an editor and upload this file to Trainingpeaks. I have around 250 trainings a year so I would opt out of this if possible Sweat smile

  • I was ultimately faced with the same issue with 7.07 Beta and now 7.11.

I don't use trainingpeaks, but noticed sites like Intervals.icu getting really thrown out of whack instantly when it was consuming HRM Pro based Power instead of Stryd.

I continue to record both, but tried to switch my Intervals.icu threshold to a Garmin based one as mainly the training load type metrics being way off (throwing off CTL/ATL) bugged me.

I think the only real 'solution' right now is likely to use a non running power supported HRM strap (standard Garmin HRM or other brand - not great).

  • I had to change to a Polar H10 HRM strap. while using my Stryd foot pod.

I know this isn't very helpful rn, but according to DC Rainmaker, the wrist-based power feature also includes the ability to turn off Garmin running power (which obviously a lot of people have been asking for.)
