After having the 945LTE since launch (and having an LTE subscription the whole time) I "finally" (?) got to talk to the IERCC today.
Out on a long bike ride recording my ride with an Edge 530 and my 945LTE (with phone in my pocket) I have live track on including emergency response and incident detection (I think these are separate settings?).
I had a 90 degree turn from a road onto a paved bike path coming up so sat up and applied my brakes to prepare for the turn. While slowing I thought I heard a slightly weird noise from my bike, but couldn't place it. I started to turn and noted my front wheel just instantly slipped out underneath me. It turns out my front tire was flat or going flat fast and I didn't realize it until far to late.
I hit the pavement with my bike roughly on top of me, but fairly quickly untangled myself from my bike and stepped onto the grass. I was passing through a tiny town in a rural area, but a car who was roughly behind me stopped to check that I was ok - I was surprisingly completely fine. Given the lack of speed it was almost more of a "tipped over" than a crash.
When I looked to my watch I noted an active emergency incident, I pressed cancel / end, but quickly realized I may have had a way to signal "I'm Ok" through that interface... Instead they called my phone within 15 seconds or so to check on me.
Luckily I'm doing fine, swapped my tired and finished another 90 minutes or so of riding to get home and really haven't noticed any odd soreness or even scratches.
Strangely, nearly a year ago to the day I was out on a ride and made a stupid mistake daydreaming on a downhill. I ended up going over the bars at a fairly high speed and sliding to a stop with a broken collarbone and needing some stitches on my face from my sunglass frame. This time did not fire an emergency response or incident detection on either my watch or Edge 530.
Mid-July rides seem to be bad luck for me.
