945LTE stays connected to ANT+ devices when not doing an activity

Ever since I purchased my Forerunner 945 LTE it has been plagued by extremely poor battery performance.  The best I get is 4 days before I had to recharge it.  Last night I went to bed and my watch was at 92% woke up 5hrs later and saw my watch was down to 50%.  I had put my stryd footpod on the charger and left it to change last night.  I have been suspicious for a while now, that the 945LTE does not release its ANT+ connections after an activity and will keep connected to the device long after a workout is complete.  I finally saw proof of this when i looked and saw my watch was connected to the stryd footpod when i woke up.  So, there is definitely an issue with the watch connecting to ANT+ devices and keeping the connection active outside of activities.

  • good experience sharing. i have been on the lookout for this for a while: i've only had this happen once with on of my Garmin HRM straps. i rebooted after that and i haven't experienced it yet, but have been on the lookout for it after everyone of my runs (seeing any plummet in percentage over the few hours after a run)

  • How exactly did you check if the stryd is connected? It is not entirely accurate, that the watch disconnects from sensors when not in activity. It drops (or at least should drop) connection to sensors when in watchface mode, but whenever you leave the watchface - be it to start an activity, enter the settings menu or just to view a widget - it may connect to external sensors, depending on circumstances.

  • I can’t say when it activates ANT/BLE sensor connections but it definitely does it outside of activities.

I usually notice it in the form of low battery or power meter calibration prompts while generally on a watch face.  I -think- my cases are almost always in conjunction or near a smartphone notification occurring so can’t say for certain when it is truly searching, connected and possibly using extra battery for this behavior.

  • I did some additional testing and from what i see, when you go into setting -> Sensors and accessories it will show searching if it's not connected. if I wake the foot pod it connects and after a few minutes it disconnects and goes back to searching.  When I do my run Later today, I'll see if it keeps connected like it did the other day.  Normally the only way around the horrible battery life is to restart the watch after each workout or it will just continue to drain the battery.

  • You could try to disable the sensors in the sensor menu when you do not use them. This would identify sensors as the culprit.

My Stryd sends both BLE and Ant+ signals, it is recommended to pair but disable the BLE signals on the FR.

Fwiw, I get roughly 9 days from my watch, with about 3h GPS, PulseOx disabled.

    Hope you can fix it!
