Airplane mode vs. battery saver

Can someone explain to me the difference between airplane mode and "disconnect phone" setting in the Power Manager > Battery Saver menu?

The "disconnect phone" setting seems to add +10 days of battery life when compared to airplane mode.

As far as I understand, both should be identical in terms of battery life, right?

For what it's worth: I talked to support yesterday (Feb. 17) and they explicitly told me that they are about to release a fix for the battery issues.

After a few more weeks using my watch, I can now…

this is super helpful info that i hope that Garmin engineering knows this and/or is paying attention to this thread! this information reveals 2 things:

1. there is a bug as you note regarding airplane mode.

2. a major culprit for the larger than expected battery drain is the BT connection.

nevertheless, even 4-5% / day doesn't compare well to my 935 which was burning 6% / day using a 24/7 Bluetooth connection and custom watch face that had 1 hz HR and seconds always on.
