Is there any way to edit a gpx file so that it does not show that the fr 945 lte or any other garmin watch was used for the activity?
Is there any way to edit a gpx file so that it does not show that the fr 945 lte or any other garmin watch was used for the activity?
GPX is a kind of xml file, so it can be opened and edited in any text editor.
I have opened the file in a text editor. I just don't see anything that would indicate what what was used.
Then perhaps the info isn't there. What makes you think that the gpx contains this information?
Good question. My activity goes to Garmin Connect. Then the information goes to Strava. The watch information shows up on Garmin Connect and also on Strava. I then download the gpx from either Garmin or Strava. I don't see the watch information in a gpx file I download from Strava, But it must be there someplace.
As a test I downloaded a garmn gpx file that had not gone to strava. It shows no watch info. Then I imported the file into Strava and the watch information shows up.
I tried the following:
I exported one of my activities (recorded on a Fenix 6) into a GPX file. I had a thorough look into the file's contents, and found no info about device in the file. Then I re-imported the GPX file into garmin connect, and the imported activity does not show any device. Unfortunately, I do not use strava, so I cannot verify it.
Please note that the original file that comes from the device is not in GPX format, but rather in fit format. This kind of file generally contains device info, so it's understandable that both garmin connect and strava show device info. However I do not know how strava knows device type from a GPX file, if this is indeed what you imported into strava.
I created a test account on strava and imported the GPX file that I exported from garmin connect earlier. No device info shows up in strava. The only garmin-related info is that the file originated from garmin connect (and this information can indeed be seen in the GPX file). Are you sure you manually imported the GPX file into strava?
I will not have a chance to try this for an hour or so but will let you know my results. I haven't mentioned it yet but thanks for all your help.
All works as you said. Thank you very much.
