Slow development?

Hello fellow 945 LTE users, having owned previously different Fenix and Forerunner models it seems that the BETA firmware development on this particular watch is slow, is it just me? I swear when previously using the Fenix 6 the firmwares came very often bringing fixes and new features. I'm wondering if this has to do with the 945 LTE being the first such device and it needing additional work because of the LTE part of the device.

  • BETA firmware was just released on the 945, 745, 245. So all forerunners costing over $200.

EXCEPT still nothing for the 945 LTE.

  • while i can see that the 945/745/245 are on the same hardware platform, the fact that Venu 2 (similar internals from what i understand) got a beta and we didn't continues to make me feel like we have been forgotten. it's only DC Rainmaker's insider info suggesting stamina was coming to the 945LTE that i have some hope that thing are being worked on still.

honestly, i don't need any new features, just fix some existing problems:

    - give ups the proper suite of battery saver settings

    - fix the problem on the GPS shutting off when we hotkey to widgets during an activity

    - fix the bug where it takes multiple button pushes to view a notification.

    - get the battery performance in line with specs for smartwatch mode

if they took care of these, i would be content because i bought the watch expecting that these things would work properly since they worked properly on older Garmin watches.

  • I created a support ticket to hear what Garmin had to say about these issues since I'm not sure what we report here on the forums always reach the appropriate people:

    1. Weight starts at 0 kg with every rep:

This will be fixed in the next update, which is under development. No ETA on when it will arrive.

    2. Severe lag when scrolling through the widgets:

There was no internal ticket for this issue and I was asked to provide a video of it happening. Support acknowledged the presence of the issue on my watch, but was unable to reproduce the issue on their watch. As such, I attempted to reset to default settings, which changed nothing. I then did a full reset (Delete Data and Reset Settings), which made the widgets much smoother. However, after my activities were synced back to the watch, the lag became very noticeable again, though not as severe as before the full reset. Perhaps having the data recording frequency set to every second, resulting in larger activity files, makes the issue worse, but I had no lag on firmware 3.07 and below.

    3. The VO₂ guage text in the default watch face is stretched tall:

Support again acknowledged the issue, this time also seeing it on their watch. The feedback has been forwarded and they've asked why it looks that way.

  • Bet they've not noticed the laggy unstable maps then. They flash white when panning and whole screen goes blue sometimes so I have to go out and back into the map screen. Maps on my 945 are smoother and stable.

Happened on my other 945 lte too.

  • I also have the lag issue, wouldn't call it very severe though. Scrolling through the widgets happens almost instantly for most, but sometimes it takes about 1-1,5 seconds after a button press to scroll further. Seems to happen when Heart Rate widget and Respiration widget is selected. (so it takes 1-1,5 seconds to go from another widget to one of these 2)

  • THIS!  Update to 4.16 broke workouts.  I'm back to memorizing or printing my workouts, out again like stone age.  Using them on the watch causes the workout to crash/end early whenever a repeat is in the workout.

  • Are you using a Connect IQ watch face or a pre-installed watch face? I had this issue, using Connect IQ watch faces, on all my Garmin watches. Pre-installed watch faces do not have this issue. Someone suggested that it is due to some sort of local memory purge happening when using a CIQ watch  and when scrolling through widgets.

  • Since the reset, the animation typically hangs for less than a second, so while I had no lag prior to the 4.07 beta it's not too bad anymore. Before the reset, the lag lasted 2-3 seconds.

I find it curious that we don't see the lag for the same transitions; I've always had lag when scrolling down from Body Battery to Steps, down from Calendar to Music Controls/Spotify, and up from Notifications to Sleep. Granted, I've kept the stock widget arrangement while you mention the Respiration widget, which isn't there by default.

  • I'm using the default, pre-installed watch face. I tried changing it to another pre-installed watch face just in case. Thanks for the suggestion though!

  • It does look like this Watch has been abandoned.... I mean.... :-( Garmin?
