Pace display when stopped

I've recently fallen to injury so get to use less / different aspects of the 945 LTE for awhile, but this yields new questions Slight smile

I was supporting athletes are a local triathlon yesterday and decided to record it as a "Walk" activity on my 945 LTE.  If I can't do strenuous activity I may as well get credit for something.

During my "walk" I spent some time actually walking up/down a hill on the sidewalk, but also some time standing still trying to cheer and motivate others on their bike.  When standing still I noticed the "Pace" data field (watch not paused, just recording my "Walk") showed "0:00" for my pace.

This is a tricky 1/x limit problem I suppose, but in theory 0:00 pace is like moving faster than light in my mind, and -:-- would make more sense if I am merely not moving.  After all, I can start walking, then stop and watch the data field go from 15:00 / mile up higher and higher (slower), but then jump to 0:00?  It seems to not make sense to me.

Is this correct and the way all Garmin devices usually show "Pace" when stopped?  This is a new experience for me and I am honestly wondering.

I agree. My 935 shows "--:--" when I'm standing still. IIRC, older Garmin watches were the same (such as 630, 230, etc.)

Based on my testing, I think any speed slower than 60:00/km (*) is shown as --:--.

(I guess if your distance/speed units are in miles, it would use 60:00/mi as the cutoff instead? I haven't looked too deeply into this.)

I'm guessing they must have changed something for newer devices. Colloquially, people will say "my pace is 0" when they're not moving, even though it would be more correct to say "my pace is infinity" (but no one would ever say that.)
