Can't open ride from Edge 840 on Forerunner 745 anymore.

Hi,

Since last month I noticed my training status on my Forerunner 745 is no longer accurate.

I checked the activity history on the watch, my rides are visible there, but I can't open the rides from last month, just nothing happens.

I am able to open older rides from my Edge 840.

The training load in the Garmin Connect app and website are as expected. So it seems like the activities of the Edge are no longer compatible with the watch software.

Is this a bug in the latest software?

Anybody with the same problem and/or a fix?

  • yes same problem. i have to sync the 840 to have correct training status. very annoing

  • I have the same problem :( Hopefully, Garmin will fix this.

  • I have exact the same problem but then with activities from edge 1040 to the fr 745. They do appear but cannot be opened on the watch + training status etc is incorrect because of this. Very annoying!

  • I have the same issue. I did not see your thread and created another one (forums.garmin.com/.../training-status-and-load-not-synced-between-edge-540-and-forerunner-745) that describes exactly the same issue. Very disappointing that they disable a feature that was once working. I also reached out to their support and just received a message, that my devices are not compatible, even though the feature was working before.

  • Are you saying that this is not working anymore ‘on purpose/deliberately’ by Garmin? I was under the assumption that it malfunctioned by error and will be fixed in an update…

if it’s true what you are saying I really regret buying a edge 1040 recently…

  • This is my assumption and Garmin did not confirm this. However, I reached out to Garmin Support and explained the issue and as a response they've sent me a link to https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=EjPECQK58qA0xzJ5X74vm7 saying that my devices are not compatible with the "Unified Training Status" feature. The strange part about this response is that everything was working perfectly fine with the same devices using Physio TrueUp. Only thing that changed is firmware versions across the two devices and the new Garmin Connect App. Therefore, I see three possible scenarios of what happened

    1. They introduced a new feature (Unified Training Status) which is not compatible with certain older devices (e.g., FR745) without knowing that it will break existing features or..
    2. .. they did it on purpose so that people are forced tu buy new hardware
    3. It's a bug and they are just not aware. I think this is less likely as the support guy already pointed me to their documentation saying it's by design

I doubt that there is any hardware limitation for this feature so I guess the only reason they did not roll it out to older versions is to reduce maintenance on their side and to make people buy new products.

Nothing of this was confirmed by Garmin and those are just my thoughts. Hopefully they will come up with a better answer and fix this asap. Otherwise they will lose a few customers I guess.

  • But it weird that it's impossible to open new Garmin Edge rides on the watch. I am able to open old rides and see all the ride details. At least that part feels like a 'bug'.

It's a rather nasty sales tactic if this is done by design to drop support for an 'old' device.

  • Yes same here. Old ones or ones recorded with watch itself can be opened but ‘new’ rides recorded with Edge cannot appear but cannot be opened on watch

  • Out of nowhere (did not see my 745 nor edge 1040 having an update but could have missed it) my ride today recorded on the edge suddenly can be opened on the 745.

Hopefully it stays for the subsequent ones. Older ones cannot be opened still on 745

  • Seems fixed. Ride today also opens
