Downgrade steps to v10.40.

After upgrading the firmware to v12.0 for my Garmin 745 and not having the elevation issue fixed, I downgraded my watch to firmware v10.40.  I see many posts asking how to do this, so I thought I would post the information here for the benefit of others.

  1. Go this URL and download the beta version:  https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=15459
  2. At the bottom of the page, follow the instructions shown in steps 5 on how to downgrade from the beta version back to the original firmware.

Note, you need a PC to do this work.  I could not access my Garmin on my Mac.  You will loose all of your settings, but I thought it was a small price to pay to get the proper elevation readings during my runs.

Good luck.  As always the steps mentioned here worked for me.  Hope they help.

  • You can use a Mac. I used mine with no issues. Connected using Android File Transfer

  • Thank you for the instruction, but this link leads to version 11.03Beta, not to 10.40!

  • Follow the instruction for the downgrade. The 10.40 firmware is in there

  • the downgrade worked without problems. important after that, turn off the automatic updates. my 745 wanted to update to 12.0 shortly afterwards.

  • Hi, question to those who already downgraded back to v10.40 – how well does the barometer work afterwards?

I ask because I have not had the sudden elevation drop during a run for a few months now, but what I have noticed is that the barometer is not as exact as it used to be when the watch was new.  For example, I know my long run (20-26km) has around 50-60 ascent meters in it, however over the course of the last months/year, the FR745 has been skewing the elevation gain up to 80-100m of ascent.

I guess my real question - Is my barometer going thru normal hardware degradation after nearly 2 years of use? Or is this a software thing and reverting back to 10.40 will help? Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks Jamey S

  • The link is not working anymore, any chance that you can share the file?

Battery in watch mode is going down like never before after the latest update.

  • i will really appreciate 10.40 for download (link up doesnt work anymore).

I was on 12.10, trying beta 12.52 but elevetion data is still off. Today run after correction(25m/up), original elevation data (80m/up) on short 32min/5k run. Calibration, cleaning etc all done. Altimeter is way off up to 60m up in a few hours after calibration.

  • You describe exactly my issue. And by fb group others. Hope garmin fix the problem. Regardless, older firmware updates not avalible more

  • the altitude drop was fixed with 12.5X beta

  • Agreed. Drops are gone. But readings of altimeter still persist fairly inaccurate like @JS wrote. I don't expect any alti/baro damage (gaps are superclean) - you can see on pictures, is stable. But when i start running it getting me bad readings - picture of run - up is corrected elevation (about 22m), down is from watch (about 80m) so i suppose its still software issue. According to another user from fb group im not the only one
