Low pulse while skiing

I knew something was wrong when my watch indicated nearly no training effect when skiing. A powerwalk the same distance would have given a higher training effect. I checked several skiing-sessions and all of them show vero low pulse. The latest one (today) I never reached 100 bpm. I checked this immediately after the session while my pulse was still not down but decreasing. I counted manually to 120bpm then. I guess my pulse in reality would be around 150-160bpm during most of the session. The watch shows way to low pulse.

I have never seen this while running even in cold weather so it can't be that. I figured it can be due to the hand-movement when using the sticks. If so, can I wear the watch somewhere else during these sessions? Upside down? Any ideas? Anyone else experienced this?
