Garmin 745 - Elevation gained screen froze for one lap of my building's stairwell, despite elevation profile page reading accurately

I was climbing the stairs in my building using the Hike mode to capture barometric elevation gain.

The total elevation gained screen completely stopped increasing for one and part of a second lap of my building, which has 40 flights and ~380 vertical feet, despite the elevation profile screen continuing to show my ups and downs.

The total ascent page never caught up to the true number and so the total shown in Garmin Connect and hence total elevation gained is hundreds of feet less than the obvious total if you just eyeball the elevation profile.

I'm baffled. The only thing I can think of is that if the watch catches a single errant GPS reading when I'm near a window before riding the elevator down, perhaps that messes up elevation tracking which should be purely based on the barometer.

Any ideas what the deal is? It's super frustrating!

Here's the activity in Garmin Connect - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/9700193256

I've attached screenshots as well.

One weird thing that happens is if you toggle between Distance and Time, one of the ascents disappears -- so that's the missing elevation, but I have no idea why!!

The missing elevation gained comes in Lap 10 from the screenshots. It looks like it basically quit measuring distance in Lap 10, and fully quit measuring elevation gain in that lap as well.
