Garmin forerunner 745 latest features update

Hello,

The 745 is priced on garmin website at the same price point of the 955 non solar, its also under the elite running watch category on the website.

many loyal garmin customers have chosen it as of its form fit factor.

The big question is if it's going to get the latest 255/955 updates (such as HRV, morning report etc.)

Supposabely the lesser 255 has them with better battery life.

I'd appreciate an honest response on this matter.

  • I personally think the 7** range of watches are done for, 245 has been upgraded to 255, 945 to 955 and the 645 is the forgotten child. What really can be added to a 755 watch, if garmin were to make one, as it is the current 945 just has better maps, so anyone looking at a new watch will, in my opinion, just opt for a 945 or the 255.

I myself have a 745, moved from a 645, and to be honest, the 645 looked better and as for the extras over the 645 (open water swimming for example) were a meh from me.

My next watch will be a 255, or I might even drop down to a 55 and return to wearing 'normal' watches, when I'm not running etc, they'd really need to improve sleep and body battery to tempt me to keep wearing a garmin 24/7, as I only started doing so with the 645 as it looked good.

So to answer your question, I very much doubt they will add them to our 745's

  • I generally thought the same as you about the likelihood of the 745 receiving an update, but then Garmin released a beta for the Fenix 6 series that included a number of the HRV features found on the new FRx55 series. Since the Fenix 6 actually pre-dates the FR745 by about of year, this made me think that at least there is the possibility of some of these features trickling down to the FR745. From a technical standpoint, it should be possible. The question then is whether Garmin feels like it is worth it.

  • Since it's technically possible I think a newer premium watch should get at least what the Fenix 6 is getting

Hope Garmin addresses this issue officially

  • First here you only will get assumptions, because no one from Garmin will answer your question about future updates of the 745,but my best guess is they will do the same they done with the 645 line. So don't expect to much in future updates. I have the 745 and upgraded to the 955 ,and to be honest, that kind of things, training readiness, morning report, HRV status is a bait . A selling point but in reality in your daily usage its very unlikely you gonna take in count the information the watch gave to you. Its just a big amount of data to justify the price. You don't gonna run more or faster because of the watch

  • Considering that garmin essentially abandoned Asian market at around version 6 firmware functonaility (same applies to all devices including the latest Fnix/Epix)  - suggest to lower your expectations. Think about the bare minimum that garmin could do, and then expect them to do less than that. If you want a device that is updated to the maximum that the hardware can support go to another manufacturer becuase its not in Garmin's DNA.
