  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 7.00 to 7.56:

  • Added enhanced strength functionality, which includes an improved workout preview with a map of muscles that will be used, improved UI in free mode and workouts, and improvements to the rep and weight editing experience.
  • Improvements made to on-device sleep detection and sleep staging.
  • Improvements made to Run/Idle detection algorithm, particularly when detecting when the user has stopped.
  • Added the Resting Heartrate True-Up feature. RHR data now gets trued-up so that all devices tied to the same account will have the same RHR value.
  • Updates for Shimano Di2 support
  • Added new alert to display after this SW update to inform user that wifi networks configured to WEP security are no longer supported.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

  4. Connect your Forerunner 745 to your computer using the USB cable.
  5. From the RemoteSW folder within Forerunner745_756Beta.zip, copy the B2196080A.gcd file to the device's \Garmin\RemoteSW folder.
  6. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  7. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-700.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-700.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD. Copy the GUP3590.GCD file from RemoteSW\Downgrades, place them in the device's \Garmin\RemoteSW folder and rename it to GUP3591.GCD. Disconnect the device to install. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • It's great to see the Strength app getting some love, and I like the improvements.  I'm not sure the slightly revised weight entry is ideal yet, since it allows you to enter hundreds of kg, then units of kg.  So entering 50kg takes quite a few key presses.  I would think that hundred, then tens then units would make more sense.  Additionally on a less important note, it might be nice to enter fractions too since they can be entered in the connect app, but not on the watch at the moment.

  • Below just for info, I have sent a report.

Installed 7.56 update a week ago and while it added features as listed I have had a few issues since -

1, RHR acting up.  Value varies through the day - flip-flops up and down on every other sync.  Seems to be confusing weekly average and RHR - the values appear to swap constantly.  More time needed to verify this.

2, On GCM there is no longer a Movement button on Sleep card.

3, On GCM and Connect Web on a Run Workout (with intervals) there are no 'headers' allowing to filter by Warmup/Run/Recovery etc.  A minimal edit of the intervals brings this back - i.e. swap Cooldown for Other and revert.

Have reset to factory settings after installation and have deleted/reinstalled GCM.  All was good before.

  • Fwiw, I still have the movement/respiration buttons within my sleep card on GCM, but will also report the interval workout issue. Will pay more attention to RHR to see if mine varies as well

  • Improvements made to on-device sleep detection and sleep staging.

The sleep detection has been poor on my 745. I got excited to start tracking my sleep about six months ago. Garmin 745 did not do well.  I hope to see some improvements.

For the most part it seems better sleep detection is mainly a result of the software/algorithm, the 745 and all newer Garmins have all the hardware they need.

I'm looking forward to this being released in a few months so I can give it a try.
