Temperature wrong

Since some time (possibly since an update) the temparature is completely off. In the overview the temparature is correct (probably using a weather station). But when I record a run it shows like 30C vs. like 5C actual temperature.

This is pretty annoying, so far I only did a soft reset, since I would like to avoid restoring my watch. Does anybody have the same problems? Any idea how to fix this?

  • If you are wearing it close to the skin, the temperature reading will be affected by your temperature.

  • It's a watch, so yes I'm wearing it close to my skin. But I never experienced those differences beforehand, I mean like 25 degrees Celcius, come on. But I will take it off now and place it outside to see what happens. Is there a way to not use the internal sensor, but the external weather station data for the activities?

  • You can buy an external temperature sensor called Tempe.

  • I've run in -4,5C and the lowest the watch has recorded was +14C. If you are wearing your sleeve over the watch, that will also help to keep the temperature up. As BlazM said you can get an external temperature sensor called Tempe, that is a lot more accurate.

  • I have the same problem, and I can't get any good explanation what this sensor will help us.

It is useless, if it counts the body temperature only. I have to wear it, to record my sessions. Really crap.

  • No watch based temperature sensor is able to accurately measure ambient temperature. The reading is always perturbed by body temperature.

Tempe is an external wireless sensor, designed to be attached to your shoe laces. I modified mine with a clip so I can clip it to a jacket or a backpack. Tempe reading is accurate as long as it is mounted away from the Sun.

  • It doesn't count the body temperature only, but it will be affected by the body temperature. Unfortunately Garmin products have to obey the laws of physics. If temperature is that important to you, get an external sensor.

  • The temperature sensor is only useful in a watch to correct the barometric altimeter according to temperature variations. It is not used to measure the outside temperature.

  • Actually it is. If you wear the watch over the sleeve of a jacket, it measures temperature accurately. The same goes if you dunk it in water (while NOT wearing it), it accurately measures water temperature.

  • I had the 935, temperature was always pretty much ok. Never cared about 1-2c offset.
But now i got the 955 and temperature is way wrong.
