Elevation Needs Constant Calibration

It seems like everyday the altimeter is hundreds of feet off, only high never low.

I have to calibrate it almost everyday in the same location with the same elevation and use the nearest airport to set the barometric pressure. But it still gets hundreds of feet off throughout the day. Is this an issue or just part of having a watch-based altimeter with low accuracy?

I sit in my dining room and set it to 20'. The barometric pressure usually corrects itself once I reset the elevation. But the next morning I'll check the elevation and it'll be anywhere from 50-350'.

The problem persists even after the auto-calibration of GPS activities.

  • Same problem here, elevation on my 745 is each time 10-20m off.
Here is some data from my previous hike:

Real local elevation / elev on watch / barometer pres.
    Altimeter mode to 'auto'
    1172 1185 1023mbar
    manually set elevation to 1172
    1172 1172 1023mbar
    1560 1571 1022mbar
    1809 1803 1022mbar (gps elev 1815)
    1600 1610
    1430 1443 1022.5mbar

    Set altimeter mode to 'altimeter'
    manually set elevation to 1400
    1400 1400 1021
    1694 1687 1020.8
    1896 1891
    1490 1497
    1172 1185 1023.5 (back to start)
