Foot Pod suggestions to pair with Forerunner 745

I got my Forerunner 745 3 weeks ago. I like the watch, but I find the real-time pace could use some help. Do you think I can buy the Zwift runpod and pair with my watch for my outdoor runs, so I get instant, more accurate pace instead of GPS pace? Has anyone tries this? Few cheap footpods these days on the market. I don't want to buy the Stryd as it expensive for what I need.

  • I just ordered a Zwift RunPod this morning to see if it will work with my Forerunner 745. I'll let you know how it goes when it shows up.

  • My Zwift RunPod showed up and I was able to successfully pair it with my Forerunner 745 as a "Foot Pod" sensor. I haven't had a chance to take it for a run yet.

  • Can I ask why you don't go for a HRM?  I have a Wahoo tickr x and have accurate HR, cadence, ground contact time, vertical ratio etc. The Garmin equivalent also has GCTbalance ( but costs more )

  • I also have a Garmin HRM-Pro that I use. My understanding is the HRM-Pro does not provide any pacing data so the use case for the Zwift RunPod is to have even pacing data for those times when GPS drops out.

  • Thank you. Please let me know how it goes.

  • It is for instant pace. I found that my forerunner 745, although accurate with GPS, the pace data is all over the place. It evens out over the duration of the run. But having a foot pod provide instant pace is much more accurate and helps me not to run too slow or too fast.

  • I did a test run with the Zwift RunPod yesterday without any calibration and the pacing was all over the place. Today I went to the track to calibrate it and used the formula (actual/measured)*100 to determine the calibration factor. I ran 1 lap around the track (400m) and the watch + foot pod measured 410m. Using the formula I came up with a calibration factor of 97.56. With that set I did my planned workout of a 10 minute warm up followed by 6 x 400m repeats and the pacing was spot on. My personal opinion is that the Zwift RunPod is working great with the Forerunner 745.
