Training Effect Issues

Last two runs, I’ve had some crazy results from Training Effect. Yesterday, I ran a pretty hard run. 8 miles @ 7:10 pace with almost 800ft elevation gain and average HR of 160. Was expecting Threshold/VO2 Max training effect and it come out as a recovery run with a 17 load. I was on 6.02 beta so I filed a report with activity file and a gpx file and submitted it. Then I restored to 5.80 because I’m in the process of training for a big race and didn’t want to have issues again. Today, (on 5.80) I ran a super easy LSD run 13.2 miles @ 9:02 pace with an average HR of 129 and it came back with a training effect of VO2 Max with a 366 load and my VO2 max dropped from 57 to 45. What in the world is going on here? HR is set at 188 max and zone are adjusted to match my set max.

  • Hi,

Indeed strange results which I can not explain.

I would suggest to send the FIT files to firstbeat (not Garmin) support desk and request them to recalculate the TE scores and feedback. They are the best option to double check correctness of calculations and to explain the results.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Fer

  • I did another base run this morning and it also returned a VO2 max training effect. I’m guessing the results from these last two runs are probably due to having to restore watch after downgrading. This is what caused the VO2 max to drop. The watch will probably give me finicky results until it learns my fitness again.
