Start a Workout within an activity that is underway.

I am trying to find a way to Start a workout during an active activity.

For example , I am out on a run and on the way I feel like doing some 400m repeats that are setup as a workout.

Is it possible to activate the workout without stopping teh active activity?

I do know how to create , save and activate workouts individually ,but was wondering if the above can be done?

Thank You!

  • Unfortunately not. When attempting to start a workout from the watch you'll see the message "Complete the current activity to access the menu."

So if you felt the urge to do a saved workout that is on the watch, you'd need to stop, then save or discard the current activity, then go back to the main menu Training >> My Workouts >> select the workout >> Do Workout >> Using Run >> Start

  • While this is the correct answer, this is positively absurd.
There's no reason to make me go through these hoops, and my guess is Garmin knows it. There have been plenty of questions addressing this as well.

    It is either:
    - Plain stubbornness on their account,
    - An unwarranted approach of treating us as children, under some misguided argument about 'safety'.

  • You can create a setup 'multisport' on your watch that will do a run -> transition -> do a workout then transition it back to a run. I had this set up as I cycle then walk and then cycle back home. However, this will save as 3 separate activities when it uploads to Strava. It does remain as one activity on your Garmin app. Hope this kind of helps.

  • Yeah I always thought its weird you can't do this. I only decide to do a workout after the first 15 minutes of running. I have to use the lap screen and just try to remember the reps.

  • IT CAN!

I was playing around with my 745 this afternoon and after my bike ride I long pressed the left middle button and found an option change sport. I was able to start a walking activity. I then did it again to go back to bike. It logs it on your Garmin as a Multisport, but thankfully you don't have to pre-set the activity.

Not sure if this was in a recent update, but I've never noticed it before.
