Distance audio prompts in kilometres when running

When I’m running, I’m not getting the audio prompts that say the distance travelled, only says “distance 1.0”, but doesn’t change throughout the run & just repeats itself. I don’t have any problems connecting or getting the audio prompts about my pace as I run, it’s just not saying the increasing distance as I continue to run. Any recommendations?

  • Hello, what's going on is you have a distance alert set, which is what is giving you the 1.0 number. The thing is the use of the distance alert is more for setting either a turn around point, or sometimes for long runs I'll break my long run into 5k segments if I'm going further than 30k. (Distance alert goes off once, cool, only need that to go off 5 more times, or as a mental note hey when this goes off for the third time turn around).

This is separate from a lap alert. The language on a lap alert, is "Lap One, "insert Lap completion Time"... at completion of lap 2, it'll say "Lap Two, "insert Lap completion Time"... All the lap is referring to is your auto lap set distance. That can be 200 meters, to 99.95 KM, or .2 miles to 99.95 miles. To figure your distance, all you need to know is what your auto lap is then multiply the distance. It's ideal if it's a round number, that makes life easiest, ie 5k auto lap, lap 6 is 30k. The way it's set up allows you to get an audible lap split for whatever distance you would like.

  • Excellent...Thanks Garmin-Brooks...! How do you then adjust the distance and the lap alert set to different distances? I previously used the Strava app on my phone (connected to bluetooth headphones) and the audio prompts were very easy and simple to adjust and included all the information you wanted during a run.  I would prefer not to be doing mathematical sums in my head as I run and the "lap" feature should be the exact distance that you've travelled...I just find that pretty strange...! Cheers mate.

  • For me, Lap X tells me the distance automatically: X km.

(as i have set the Lap at 1.0 km).
