Erratic heart rate data is affecting training status and training load

I sometimes get erratic heart rate data during an activity. This has a negative effect on the accuracy of the performance measurements like training status and on the suggested workout. Is there any way to mitigate this - for example, by editing the bad HR data?

  • Hello Xyon, there isn't but let's look at the root of the issue, what is causing the issue in the first place.

    • Are you using the optical heart rate sensor or are you using a chest strap?
    • Is this occurring every run or is it occurring intermittently?
    • Does weather seem to impact the accuracy? (If you pull the activity up in Garmin Connect you can see weather in the map of the run if it's an outdoor activity).
    • Is this happening early in the activity and then correcting once the activity gets underway, or is this happening later in the run?
    • Hi, I'm using the wrist based sensor. I know why it happens or at least when it happens. Only when run in cold weather, after some time, which I presume leads to poor circulation in the surface blood vessels in my arm.
  • Hello, I am having the same issue.  In all my runs, my HR is being measured incorrectly (about 25% higher).  It has started approximately 4 weeks ago.  It will quite suddenly jump up (usually into the HR Max range) and sometimes will drop down just as quickly.  It is not weather dependent.  I am using the wrist sensor.  I have turned Pulse Ox off (I had previously been told that this was the cause) and my watch has <90% battery.  I run consistently in the morning.  I have a screenshot so you can see the typical issue.

  • All these Optical Wrist Based Sensors have the Same Problem most Visible in Running Activities and Weight Training Activities. I's Caused by The Movement of the Body.

Cycling is Actually Fine Because Your Wrists are Stationery, When You Rest and Sleep It's Fine.

On Slow Walking Activity  it does make a few mistakes but not as much as Running Activity.

The Simplest Way to Correct the Issue is to Wear a Chest Strap HRM during Activities. Any Chest Strap HRM that Supports Ant+ Protocol Should Work. I'm Currently Using the Kalengi HRM with A Polar Soft Strap and It Is 100% Accurate.

Those Dips is When I Stop Every 20 Minutes.

  • Same problem with me,in one week my vo² max drop from 49 to 45
