How do I navigate a course and do the suggested workout at the same time? I tried, butt only ended up lap pressing or ending the navigation.

I was told that it could be done, but not how.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • With earphones/buds you will get audio prompts for the workout.  You can then view any screen other than the workout screen and still be informed of what to do.

  • Once I start the workout, I cannot back up to start the navigation or vice versa.  What step am I missing.  I apologise as I only have basic electronic skills.

  • Hi there,

Today I planned a route using the Garmin Connect app on phone, sent it to my watch, started a training plan workout and selected my course.

During the run, with my ear buds connected with music, I received audio prompts for pace against the training plan and prompts for directions for the course. It worked perfectly.

To do this, I start by selecting a Spotify playlist which then searches and connects my ear buds. Then I start my run activity and because I've setup a training plan, I select to do the workout planned. While waiting for GPS, I press Options, then open my course. I think that was in Navigation. When you load a course, you can also set up your data screen in Run Settings and set a pace to track against. Press the back button when done to return to the run screen and press start when ready.

You can try this all out before you go and then delete the run.

So my experience is that you can do a run activity or run workout, and a course with both a pace set and/or PacePro set, and music altogether.

During the run I got direction alerts on the data screens too with direction arrows. Very impressed.

I think the step you are missing is once you start your workout, press options to add in your course.

Hope you work it out, good luck.

  • Thanks for your reply and help!  I was able to get it to work.  The way you described worked.  I played around a little and found a way that was a little quicker.  I started my suggested activity and immediately paused it.  After pausing, I long pressed the up button, navigation, and select the route.  After that it will take you back to the paused screen and you can continue your workout.  Thanks again for you help, you pointed me in the right direction.

  • I'm doing this on an older device, so not sure if this translates to the Forerunner 745...

    • Go to the course, select "do course" but don't press start yet
    • Go to the workout, select "do workout," press start
    • Both the workout and the course should then be running and the activity is recording
