Recovery time and multiple devices

Hi,

I just bought a garmin watch 745.

There is a feature with recovery time. My question is can the watch take into account activities appearing in garmin connect? I do zwift, but it's logging to strava and duplicating into garmin connect.

Thanks!

  • It's a good question.

I don't know the answer either, but interested to find out.

  • Hi there, recovery time measured on the device not in Garmin Connect. You can update recovery time between devices if the devices measure recovery time, ie record a running activity on a 745 and recording a cycling event on an Edge, both can generate a recovery time and they can sync between using a feature called Physio TrueUp. What is Physio TrueUp? Per that article; "Recovery Time will only update when Physio TrueUp is enabled on all devices." This means when using a system like Zwift if you aren't using a device that records recovery time and has Physio TrueUp enabled, it won't be able to update your recovery time on your watch.

  • You need to add the sleep widget because otherwise, recovery time will always be compromised.

  • That isn't one hundred percent correct. The watch is still taking your sleep into consideration for the recovery time feature per this article on our site. What Is the Recovery Time Feature on My Garmin Device? What you don't currently see without the widget is just how the night of sleep was scored, along with the feedback that is visually presented. Effectively it's functioning in the background. The goal of course is to get the insights and score functionality released as soon as possible. For the purpose of this particular thread however, and specifically how sleep affects recovery time, it currently is operating how it's going to operate.

    • This is not true, because today's algorithm is horrible, they say the new one that is present in the Phoenix line is much better. The current sleep hours never match.
  • Hi,

That's one thing bothering me as well. Reading this, I now get that it doesn't work between my FR745 and Edge 520 (non-Plus) because the latter as a 2016 device doesn't support TrueUp but why does it work on Zwift, then?

When tracking workouts on the Zwift Win10 app and syncing with Connect, I'm getting a corresponding recovery time shown as soon as the watch syncs afterwards. So, is Zwift's Connect integration somehow supporting TrueUp?

When it comes to my Edge, I suppose I'd have to upgrade to a newer model like the 530 to get TrueUp support?

    Cheers,

    Florian
