How to interpret (nonsensical) stride repeats guidance from Coach Greg

I started the Garmin Coach Half Marathon plan with coach Greg. First I did a “benchmark run”. The next workout on the plan is a “stride repeats”. It tells me to run short bouts at increased cadence between 150 and 200 steps per minute.

On the surface that sounds simple, except it doesn’t make any sense. My average cadence during the benchmark run was 206. I know that’s high, but that’s my usual cadence (I run in minimalistic shoes, so perhaps that’s a reason.) So I am asked to “increase” to a lower cadence?

I can think of several reasons for this, either

  1. Greg is ignoring my cadence on the benchmark run. He simply assumes my usual cadence is lower. If so, please fix silly coach Greg. The data is right there in the Garmin app.
  2. Greg thinks my cadence is too high and wants me to reduce it. If so, please fix confusing copy.

So for this workout should I:

  1. Do bouts of slower (150-200) cadence.
  2. Ignore the cadence suggestion.
  3. Do bouts of faster than my average cadence (210-240).
  4. Something else.

Please advise.
