wrong swim stroke detected

I have done 20 swims so far and almost every time it showed wrong stroke style, like I mainly do breaststrokes, but it showed freestyle.

Plus, the length tracking is not perfect. For a 50m pool, 1500m swimming it usually overstated 100 to 200m.

anyone has similar experience with FR 745 detecting wrong stroke and length for swimming?

thanks

  • None of these watches have great ability do differentiate strokes. They only use accelerometers, and it depends on the swimmer. For length detection, it is important not to stop, slow down or accelerate or change strokes during each length. So negotiating other swimmers often triggers a new length. Also it is best to manually pause the watch during rest and restart during the next interval. You can correct it in Garmen connect. Accuracy for me is nearly perfect unless I do the above.

  • Hi Brooks, thanks for the link. I got the watch replaced coz the original one also had button issues. The new one still can’t detect the swimming stroke and length correctly. I have tried everything in the help article. I guess Garmin may need to look into the algorithm. The reason of saying this I also wear a fitness band when swimming. That cheap stuff is always correct on the stroke and length... I hope we can get at least swim length sorted so I don’t need to wear two devices at once. Thanks.
