Forerunner 745 battery issue

I charged my 3 day old Garmin FR745 100% today.

After only 2 hours the forerunner FR745 shows only 91%, although I deactivated PulsOx and the connection to my cell phone too.

That can't be normal?

Does anyone have similar experiences?

  • Okay, but I do not use this feature. Sorry.

Yesterday I received the new watch and now after 26h only fall down to 79% (with one hour GPS) - seems good now :-)

  • Are you still getting good battery. What software are you running?

  • I use the latest software (3.40) and I do not have any troubles but I did a hard reset after update.

  • Hello. I've just got my first Garmin after Fitbit Ionic issues.

What's the best way to conserve battery. Thankfully mine isn't depleting as drastically as the OP but I would be happy to turn off some features in order to get a longer lasting battery.

  • I turned off all battery-draining apps and features, beyond what I usually use.  I also turn the watch off when I'm not using it.

Despite this, sometimes the watch drains to 50% overnight, without even being on.

One thing I wonder that might be causing this - I often carry my watch (turned off) in a pocket of my backpack that also has some coins in it.  Could the joins be causing a short at the charging port, making the battery drain faster?  I would think that would be unlikely - shouldn't the port not drain battery, only charge it?  And also, the port is mostly internal, so I would think it would be hard for the coins to cause a short.

In any case, I ordered a Garmin case, and I'll be transporting the watch in the case from now on, to see if it stops draining in this way.

Anyone else notice what I'm seeing?  Watch off, yet draining to 50% overnight?

  • My Forerunner 745 was new in October. Battery life has never been as advertised. It will typically last two to three days, including about one GPS activity per day. Sometimes dies in less than 48 hours. I'm disappointed and not sure what's going on. I had two successive Apple watches (versions 2 and 4), for about four years and one of the reasons I changed to Garmin was for longer battery life. The 745 lasts a little bit longer, but not by much.

  • I've had a play around and have stopped the all day sync between my phone and watch. I don't need notifications coming through on my wrist and have found that this has greatly helped the battery. Still not getting the same lengths of charge as I used to with my Fitbit Ionic.
