Venu, Vivoactive 4/4s or Forerunner 745?

Hi guys!

I know it is a huge discussion, but I am about to buy my first garmin watch and I am super confused! For a week now I am reading and comparing. I am an ex basketball player and a certified TRX coach. Now I do mostly TRX, tabata, Body pump, CXWOrx, Body balance, weights, cycling and swimming. The otherr thing I love to do is go in the mountains. I don't run much.

I know that forerunner series are for runners but I see options for tracking the efficiency of your practice, when you need to practice more, or you are exhausted. I don't see in any of those watches if there are any options for mountains.

Give me your advices people, please! Slight smile

  • The Venu and Vivoactive Series are "lifestyle" watches according to Garmin. Basically, they'll cover a wide range of activities, but they're all limited in functionality.  For the activities you've listed the 745 is the better fit. Two things I'd like to mention. Garmin's coverage for TRX/suspension type training is pathetic and a pet peeve of mine.  There is no native app for it and the "strength" app is very limited on the number of those type of exercises you can use from their list.  I've been requesting for years the ability to edit and enter our own exercises, but it hasn't happened to date.  Secondly, let me suggest the 945.  It has several profiles for mountain type activities such as hiking, climbing, bouldering, skiing, XC skiing, backcountry skiing, trail running and mountain biking (I believe the 745 has most of these apps), but with the 945 you get maps which is a must for navigation.  This link may help.

Thank u for the answer. I think I chose a different brand. So many negative coments in the different topics. So many functions are not working properly. What is the point of having then if they are not correct. I think i am going to buy a Coros Apix

That's definitely your choice.  Just keep in mind, forums are where people seek help with issues and they tend to be negative.  You'll find the same with every manufacturer and not just with Garmin.  These type of forums should be taken with a grain of salt when reviewing products.  It's best to read unbiased and independent reviews.  Best of luck on whatever device you choose.  DCRainmaker is one of the best unbiased reviewers you'll find.  Here's his take.
