Missing road bike profile?

Hello,

on Forerunner 920XT and 735XT I used to have separate activity profiles for MTB, Road bike and Indoor cycling. After sync these were automatically categorized in Garmin Connect under correct subcategories Cycling/Road Cycling, Cycling/Mountain Biking etc. This works also on FR 745 for mountain biking with profile MTB, but there is no profile for road bike, just general Bike which syncs to general Cycling, not Road cycling.

Did they remove Road bike option or am I missing something?

  • If you have both the MTB and Indoor Bike app and know what they're for, what exactly do you think the Bike app covers?

  • I do not know what is this profile good for, but definitely not for road bike, because it syncs to incorrect subcategory in Garmin Connect. At least my FR745 behaves like this.

  • The issue comes down to categorization: if the app uploads the activity as a cycling activity, as opposed to a road cycling activity there is no way to run a report that separates Road Cycling from MTB. You can separate MTB from Road Cycling (same occurs for Bike Indoor and Bike). The issue comes down to is this a bug, or is it by design. If it is by design you can submit a user request to have the decision reviewed. If it is a bug then we would want to make sure that get's fixed. I would like to escalate the issue to find out which case it is. I'll direct message you to gather some information. Anyone else interested in this case @ me and I will reach out to you.

  • I hat the same Problem with my fenix 6. Then i copy my working Probile from the Edge 1030 to my Fenix and now it works fine.

  • This is just genius, thank you very much for this idea. So it looks like Garmin just forgot to upload correct profile by default. Now I do not have device with compatible profile to copy from, but I tried to binary compare mtb profile and generic bike profile on 745 XT and I have found that there is difference in one byte which probably defines subcategory. See image below, on incorrect profile there were bytes 02 00 (generic cycling) 02 08 means MTB, 02 06 Indoor bike and replacing it with 02 07 made the profile work correctly as Cycling/Road bike. Problem solved, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • You can download this working Profile and put it to new Files

It is the German Name. You can rename it bevor copy the File.
