745 not connecting to MacBook via in-box USB

I've tried powering off the 745, connecting the cable, then turning on the 745 but it stubbornly refuses to show up as a storage device so can't manually download activities or connect via Garmin Express. Any other ideas please?

It doesn't show up as a storage device, becuase it's not a storage device. It's an MTP device, and macOS does not support MTP natively.

If you want it to mount as a drive then you have to use something like Android File Transfer. But Garmin Express should still see it with out any additional software. I am using Garmin Express 7.1.0.0 on my MBP running 10.15.7 and all is working with my 745.

Thanks all - having previously has a 920XT and an Edge 1030 I expected it to appear as a disc. I now know better and it's working fine. Thanks for your help.

Ever since introducing music capability to its devices, garmin switched over to MTP.
