GPS accuracy

How has the GPS accuracy been for those of you already using the 745?

  • I'm not trying to dismiss your question, but with any GPS watch accuracy will depend on weather, satellite location and obstructions such as tree cover, canyons, buildings, etc.  There's really no way to get a definitive answer without knowing all the variables.  I could tell you it's great while someone else can say it's poor, but without the known variables neither will assist you.  I could run the same route at 7AM and 7PM under the same weather conditions and one track may be better because I had more or stronger satellite signals due to satellite location at that particular time.

  • Understood, thanks Tess. Still, within one’s own experience we can get a sense of whether one watch seems more consistent, and so perhaps more accurate, than another. My 935, for example, consistently performs as well as or better than my 945, and very rarely performs worse. And that’s what I’m interested in. Are users getting a sense of accuracy and reliability around the 745, compared to other watches they may have owned.

  • Sure. I understand there could be a design flaw such as antenna placement, but even as new as the 745 is, I think it's fair to say if there were any issues they would have been posted already.  As a side note, I see no difference with accuracy between the different chipsets in my 945 vs my 935 though many claim the newer Sony chip is inferior. Just my experience.  I don't have a 745.  Did you get one?  If so, are you seeing any differences with GPS?

  • I don't have a 745. I've been disappointed with the accuracy of my 945 (Rev.D) and so I still default to the 935. I do understand all you mentioned in your first message. I'm well aware of the challenges determining accuracy, and yet I still find the 935 is consistently very close to certified measurements, while the 945 is only some of the time, and can be wildly wrong other times. Perhaps it's the Sony chip, I don't know. Agreed, re: if there were any issues with the GPS accuracy of the 745 they'd likely already be posted. I guess I'd also be interested in feedback from anyone using the 745 and finding it particularly good, compared to their previous watch.

  • I agree . I just got a 745 and my 630 was much better as regards connecting to GPS and teh instantaneous GPS accuracy in the same area and routes.  Ive tries GPS , GPS and Glonas and GPS And Galileo and all seem equally bad. Not what I had expected.
